Okay I got an old shotgun that has a tremendous sentimental value to me,
and I want to get some light engraving of game scenes, and the family
name put on the reciever. I also want to get a good quality deep blue.
I have no Idea were to look, I don't know what it would cost. Anyone
have any advice. :D

I guess I would be sorely tempted to leave that gun alone. Hw about buying it a fine, fitted case and having the brass plate on the case engraved with whatever?

A full restoration by a top smith like the Del Gregos or Doug Turnbull will run into 4 figures.

Unless it's VERY important to you, I'd suggest conservation instead. Keep it from rusting, use some wax or the right oil on the wood, and enjoy the character marks.

Here's another restorer if you decide to go whole hog on it. The bluing isn't particularly expensive, depending on which kind or combination you go for, it's the prep work that'll break the bank.

The blueing Ted Yost does on his 1911's is stellar and I know his shop has done nice scatter gun work as well.

As for engraving, I you could contact this gentlemen. He was a master engraver for S&W and has gone freelance (and the pricing came down with his independence). I have seen a lot of his work on the S&W Forum.

Best of luck with your project. It will not be inexpensive.

These guys are in PA and do fabulous work.

Allem's Guncraft (http://www.allemsguncraft.com/)

They have lengthened a couple forcing cones for me and back-bored a barrel. For an outfit that works primarily on guns that are worth more than my car, they were very friendly and did not give me a hard time when I dropped off a couple 20" 870 barrels for work.

For just rebluing, I have used these guys and I will do so again. Very affordable.

And that would be in the higher range of four figures depending on how much work you need and/or want to get done.

What type of gun is it? Some types need specialist work (e.g. you don't hot blue an old sxs), other's not so much.

Engraving can be very spendy depending on the gun and what you want done. Sometimes the receiver needs to be heat treated to soften the steel and then retempered. Put your request in writing and get a written quote in return.
