I came across a Model 29-8 (the 6.5" barrel version) used in a local store. Price is $499.

It looks to be in decent shape and feels like it had a little trigger work done. I never really wanted a Model 29, but I thought about buying this one to shoot a little and maybe someday sell to a Dirty Harry nut for a premium.

I did a search on the 29-8 and got some decent info on the gun itself.

My question now is whether $499 sounds like a decent price.

Also, is it correct that S&W no longer produces the 29?

The 29 is no longer produced. Its stainless version the 629 is though. The price you listed is about normal in many places for an N frame S&W. Not a great price but not real bad either. They are real nice guns.

I have a hunch the serious "Dirty Harry nuts" would want model 29s without hyphens and revision numbers.
