Ok..I'm a happy camper since two of my "children" have been refitted.
First my Saiga .308.

She started life as a standard 21" Saiga .308. Now she has a new trigger group from RSA. Collapsible M4 stock from Cavarms. Harris Bipod. HK type Ergo PG from ACE. Collapsible Stock Adapter from ACE.

Sorry about the size of the pics...my Photo Editing program is on the blitz.

And my little 9mm finally gets her "preban" retrofit. I decided to not worry about the bayo lug since there is no possible way I could mount one with a midlength upper and 14.5 barrel(16 w/mb). The stock is also a M4 in Coyote brown from Cavarms.

And finally a size comparison to the Saiga.

Now all I have left on the Saiga is to remove the FSB and replace it with a flash supressor. Mount a ACE clamp on type FSB on the gas tube and get a good scope.

Very nice! I'm still looking for detailed instructions as to what has to be drilled, cut out, etc. to replace the trigger group with a standard pistol-grip and AK-type trigger group. Can you recommend any link for the detailed instructions, or post them yourself?

That seems to be a fairly straightforward explaination. Hope it helps Preacherman.

Preacherman,

The .308 conversion is a lot easier since you don't have to mess with bullet guides for highcapacity mags. You also don't have two extra pins on the reciever.

You only have a standard trigger pin and hammer pin, as on the standard AK.

Here is what I had to do.

1. Remove the hammmer and trigger as well as all internals. I didn't bother to reinstall the bolt hold open as it looked like it would be a pain to reinstall. You can see how the trigger is just one long trigger. The entire assembly is attatched together. Also shown is the bolt hold open lever and spring.

2. This second picture is of the bottom plate removed. You can see where I removed the rivets by the two empty holes. You can also see a couple of tack welds. I broke these by drilling them carefully and then tapping it off with a chisel. You can also see that the pistol grip stud hole is not cut on mine. Some are and some aren't..go figure. I ended up cutting mine with a jigsaw blade.

3. In this pic you can see the old trigger compared to the newly installed RSA trigger. Again..this is different than the one posted on the conversion site since the .308 only has the standard holes. Also, when installing the new trigger, you will have to get one either designed for the .308 or do a bit of dremel work on a standard AK hammer. Sorry, I can't tell you how much to remove since I went with a RSA trigger. Almost twice as much in cost, but well worth it in my opinion.

So...the conversion is pretty easy for the .308. Remove the bottom plate. Remove and install the new trigger group and hammer. Punch out the PG hole if necessary. And that's it...you're done!
