Best trigger in a DA/SA pistol-especially the SA pull

Im in the market for a new 9mm pistol in DA/SA and was wondering what DA/SA guns have the best trigger feel. I guess maybe the top 3.

I rented a SW 5903 today and the SA pull was so long the trigger almost touched the frame. On the first shot i thought the gun was broken. It was really smooth, but way too long. I guess im used to my FEG hi-power.

Any suggestions?

Look at the CZs. I have a 75B and it has a nice trigger.

My CZ 85 Combat s#cked. But I like my SIG P220, out of the box, and SIG has several sizes of 9mm. I have two S&W 9's, a CS9 and a 3913. They're both smooth.

A lot will depend on how the pistol fits your hand, so spending some time at the range or deler will be your best bet.

The best single-action trigger pull in a full size DA/SA firearm most
likely would be found in the world class SIG-SAUER 9m/m P220.

I would have to agree, Sigs have the best factory DA/SA pull, especially the SA.

I would have to say Sig, although my new H&K USP .40 really took me by suprise, especially in D/A, very smooth.

The best trigger I've ever felt was on a an HK USP Expert. Not sure if it was tuned, but it was very nice. :D

One shooter's nice is another's mushy :banghead: That said, the nicest DA/SA trigger I've experienced in a stock semi auto pistol was on a HK USP Expert...so nice in fact that I bought one!

If you can find a Sphinx, no other DA compares. Short of that the CZ-75 is far smoother and crisper than any SIG. I have been spoiled by 1911 triggers and the CZ based pistols are the only DAs that I would consider. If you are on a budget, even the Witness is pretty good.

CZ-83 is the best DA/SA trigger I have ever encountered. Excellent ergonomics too.

My SIG 229 with the DAO hammer spring owns my old Beretta and the CZs I've shot.

The trigger on my friends Sig 228 is near perfect, the only complaint i have is that it has a relatively long reset and a little take-up after resetting.

I think the Sigs rule right out of the box. It has a smooth release too that doesn't disturb the sight picture 'too much' when the hammer is tripped esp. if your grip is off- this helps to contribute to the Sig's great accuracy.

Berettas can easily surpassed that though (i.e trigger pull) with a mainspring change ($3) and and light polishing of the hammer/sear engagement area ($5- sandpaper and polish). CZ triggers are pretty crisp out of the box.

Thanks for the responses, guess ill be looking at CZs and Sigs this weekend. Anyone own a sample of both? Head to head trigger pull commentary?

Hey, don't be too quick to dismiss the HK DA/SA/EspeciallySA trigger! Check one out if you can. If you were anywhere near me I'd volunteer it.

I have a CZ-75B and can't stand the trigger. It has the black plastic trigger and it just feels terrible. It's got a heavy pull and I can feel the plastic bend when I pull it. It's a shame too as it's a good gun. I'm still debating selling it. I have a Dan Wesson Patriot 1911 and maybe it's spoiled me. I did shoot a Sig 226 and thought it had a fantastic DA/SA trigger. I'd really look at the Sig line as I was very impressed.

Sig DA/SA triggers are vastly superior to CZ DA/SA triggers, IMHO. I have a Sig 220ST, a Sig 228, and a Sig 226ST, and they all have crisp SA triggers. I changed out the springs w/ lighter Wolff springs, so the DA pull is not quite as heavy as w/ the OEM springs.

CZ triggers, especially when new, are horrible. After several hundred rounds, however, things smooth up a bit. And they give you snap caps so you can do sort of a home trigger job through repeated dry fires. Still, in SA, you can feel and actually see the hammer cocking further back. Not what I'd call crisp. Despite the trigger, my CZ 75b is amazingly accurate and comfortable to shoot. Easily one of my favorite 9mm's.

I have a S&W 3913TSW which has an amazing trigger for a DA/SA, especially the reset, very positive. Much better than my HP. Maybe check out a few other samples if your into the S&W platform. I find the sig trigger resets to long, the USP seems a little better. As for SA, cocked and locked with the USP! ;)

From my own personal experience, I would go with Sig. I have a 225, 220ST, 226, and HK USP40f. Maybe I got a Monday gun, but my USP has the worst DA/SA trigger. The DA on the HK was mushy and heavy and the SA gawdawful. The 225 has a heavy DA but it's smooth and the single action is crisp. The 226 is the smoothest DA/SA I have.

In general I'd say SIGs, but Smiths while having heavier pulls have much better resets, approaching a Glock or 1911. One thing I've learned is that it's very hard to make a judgement in this area until you've put 500 rounds through the gun.

Well Ive owned alot of CZ's and the triggers on MOST are very good but some you have to shoot a bit to bring the good trigger out.

Ill sware the CZ83 has the best outathebox trigger on any DA/SA gun.....period.
The 220's and such are great but not comared to the little 83....to bad the caliber isnt up there.

The plastic trigger on the CZ is on the SA model and doesnt really fit this thread........The feel is lacking on the SA because the plastic hides it from you.

Sigs have very consistant triggers and are very good..........a good CZ trigger is probably better but they arent as consistant.......

Shoot well.......

In my experience the Sig P series has a great DA/SA trigger. A lot of people knock the USP trigger, I personally like it the best. After 1000 or so rounds the trigger smooths out very nicely. Also, I really like the Beretta 92FS trigger. After breakin it is extremely smooth. Heavy but smooth. I understand if you use the main spring from a "D" model, it lightens the pull considerably.

"The plastic trigger on the CZ is on the SA model and doesnt really fit this thread"

My plastic trigger is on a CZ-75B Tactical, not the SA. I'm not sure why they decided on that trigger as it's terrible.

The Sigs are generally excellent.

The CZ and H&K USP triggers are also extremely good for DA/SA.

My seat of the pants view is the SIG/Sauer P220 has the best single action trigger pull, however, I'm not nuts about the 2-stage nature of it. The Walther P38 and its derivatives have a darn nice SA pull without the slack of most DA/SA autos. YMMV

I have had both SIG and a CZ. The CZ is not bad, but the SIG's are better. The CZ has a longer and heavier DA pull. SIG's get better with use and time: be sure to check out a well-used SIG if you can. Also, there was a design change for P-series SIG triggers some time ago; I like the older ones better though the difference is extremely subtle - and it may be the older ones are broken in better.

I've owned three SIG P220s and the SA is better than my CZ75b SA but I prefer the CZ DA over the P220 DA. The SA on my CZ really sucks. I prefer the DA of my SIG P225 over the other two.

My USP9 DA feels awful when dry firing but I don't notice it when shooting. I actually shoot the USP in DA better than any of my TDA guns. I like the USP SA the best of my TDA guns.

To me, trigger pull/quality is somewhat subjective. My CZ trigger isn't the best I've ever used, but from putting 1000 rounds through it and from dry-firing every day, I know exactly where, when, and how it breaks relative to my finger and grip.

I had a SIG 220 and the SA trigger was good but the DA was below average.

The CZ-40B I had, had a decent DA trigger but the SA was creepy.

S&W tends to be poor.

Ruger is poor also.

I can't say that I have ever really felt a great DA AND SA trigger on any semi-auto pistol. The best I have felt is on my Beretta 92FS. It has a long but very smooth DA trigger with a slighty mushy SA. I much prefer mushy over creepy when it comes to SA triggers.

I agree 100% with that. In addition I find that the reach on the trigger of the CZ's is overly long making what would have been a fine trigger somewhat less than ergonomically well designed.

Get the trigger replaced with the steel trigger. If you send it back to CZ, ask Mike to do a trigger job on the new trigger. You will love it. Out of the box, both my CZ's had good triggers. The PCR is excellent and a bit lighter than the 75B. The 75B has broken in nicely.

The trigger on my CZ75 Compact of years ago was outstanding, both DA and SA. The PO1 is better in SA than I expected, and very good in DA, especailly from the decocked position.
The SiGs I tried at the range I worked at were a 229, 220,226 and 230. The best of them all was the old beater 220, a great heavily used pistol I tried to buy...they wouldn't sell it. The 229 was a good shooter, but the best of the SiG was the 220.
Still vote CZ....
