View Full Version : Remington Factory Magazine Extension?

Another Cinderella 870 has followed me home, this one a 1989 (by the barrel code) polished and blued Police Magnum with walnut furniture and chrome bolt, 18" ImpCyl barrel, bead sight and a factory 2-round magazine extension. It's a PD or agency trade-in (couldn't find out where from tho), in really good shape. And I don't see a model meeting this description in the LE catalog any more, so it seems they aren't being made any more.

But I never had anything with a Rem factory extension before, and the two-piece construction has me somewhat confuzzled. So, how far does the extenson need to screw into the magazine cap, and what goes where first? I figgered the mag cap goes on first as tight as need be to stabilize the barrel, and then the extension tube screws in as far as it will go. Am I right or wrong on this?

This 870 came from another THR member, sgtb. If interested you can see the thread at http://www.thehighroad.org/showthread.php?t=107119 . It is surprising to me how good this gun looks- a little parking lot rash on the left side of the forearm, a couple of scars in the bluing near the muzzle, and a small incipient chip in the wrist of the stock (easily repaired with a drop of Acraglass, and relieved a bit so as not to contact the receiver unevenly).

Looking forward to putting this one to work...

You pretty well got the extension figured.

Screw the cap on the mag tube.
Screw the extension into the cap until it just butts up against the mag tube. (Don't over tighten it, or allow a gap between the mag tube and extension).

Put the clamp on. You have to use the clamp on the Remington extension.

This sounds like an older Police gun. The older ones were basically a Wingmaster with a non-checkered stock and a less polished blue job.

One give-away is the chromed bolt, which was a earlier Police feature.

Most Police guns are carried back and forth from the station to the car, but shot very little.
These are usually GREAT buys.
