The last time at the range I bought 500 rounds of Lake City .45 230 gr hard ball. The stuff shot fine but was pretty dirty.

My question is this. Has anyone used the brass for reloading? The box said that it is made in Hungary or Yougoslavia or someplace. I thought Lake City was a US company.

Along the same lines I have a line on some Lake City 30.06 unfired brass...has anyone used this? Should I go for this or hold off and get Rem/Win or other "named" brands?

LC is GREAT brass, but....the primer pockets are most likely crimped in. The .308 and .30-06 have thicker cases than commercial cases, so you should drop your charges by at least 5%. Not necessary for your .45 acp though.

In my experience, Lake City is superior to commercial brass. Removing the crimp in the primer pocket is a small price to pay for the quality of this brass.

And it lasts forever!

Lake City is a little town just about ten miles east of Kansas City, Missouri, where there is a US Army arsenal where the "Lake City" ammunition is made. I'm not sure who the contractor is, but that's the "Lake City" we all hear about. :cool:

There was some Chinese ammo (.30 Carbine, I believe) that was marked "LC 52" or something similar, and was corrosive (no true surplus .30 Carbine ammo is corrosive) so this may be another knockoff. As stated earlier, Lake City Arsenal is just outside KC, and is definitely not in the Balkans. I'd be pretty suspicious of the ammo, but if the brass is actually brass, and Boxer primed, then it's likely to be fine for reloading.

I recently saw some LAke City in .223 it was in an army ammo can, 900 rounds loose in the can for $149, the brass looked new and had an LC headstamp and the Nato circle with a cross inside symbol.

The fact that all the ammo was loose instead of in battle packs mad me suspicious, as did the 900 count (instead of 1000), so I passed.

Is it normal for this ammo to be packed loose in an ammo can or would it be in sealed 20 or thirty round packages???

I think 223 comes 900 to a can. Sometimes on machinegun belts.
