ny32182 November 23, 2004, 11:14 AM A friend of mine (no, its not me :D ) spilled a Bud Light all over the receiver of his Bushmaster. We cleaned it out with Hoppes, and can't smell the beer in it anymore, although we're not sure if we got all of it out of the trigger group.
Will the finish or integrity of the parts be harmed by beer? Is beer acidic, basic, etc to the point where it could harm a firearm?

Joe Demko November 23, 2004, 11:18 AM I don't think beer is particularly corrosive, but if you want to be sure you got it all out just rinse the receiver with scalding hot water. Make sure it is good and hot so that the receiver dries itself with residual heat. Then relube.
Master Blaster November 23, 2004, 12:50 PM Bud light comes in an Aluminium can, AR receiver is aluminium, sounds like a good match to me. :neener:
Serriously, seperate the lower and the upper remove bolt carier and seperate bolt, wash with hot water let dry spray with breakfree or other clp and you will be ready for action. AR-15s are pretty durrable and rust resistant.
Yeungling Lager goes better with an AR.
ny32182 November 23, 2004, 01:01 PM Heh... thanks for the advice, guys. How about steel and parkarizing, are those beer-resistant as well?
borderguy November 23, 2004, 05:52 PM Just give it a good cleaning and you should be good to go.
Theres nothing beer that is corrosive to your AR parts.
Oh..If your buddy was a true friend, you'd be drinking Miller Lite.
psyopspec November 23, 2004, 06:05 PM Pretty sure you'll be ok. If beer is corrosive to the metal on a gun, I'll be in trouble with the amount I've been putting in my stomach
mustanger98 November 23, 2004, 10:41 PM  From the title, I thought this thread was whether to buy an AR vs Bud Light. I'd have had to say go with the Bud Light. :neener:
victory November 24, 2004, 05:40 AM <-----beer elitist
Bud light i'd say is only useful for target practice. Seek revenge on it.
Back to my sam adams winter brews. mmmmm.....tasty.
seeker_two November 24, 2004, 06:23 AM Only problem I see is that you're trying to feed your AR cheap, weak beer.
Get thee a six of Sam Adams & sin no more...
Fed168 November 24, 2004, 06:37 AM Thank goodness it wasn't Pabst- you would get corrosion quickly.
Master Blaster November 24, 2004, 08:38 AM PABST = Gas operated.
artherd November 24, 2004, 11:41 PM Just keep plenty of beer on hand to pour into the action, AR-15s need constant lubrication after all! :)
Just squirt a lot of CLP into an AR, it will function untill the barrel wears out (40k+ rounds)
bbaerst November 25, 2004, 01:45 AM Hope he wasn't shooting it while drinking...
N3rday November 25, 2004, 02:10 AM Hope he wasn't shooting it while drinking...
About time someone realized the problem with having guns and beer in the same place...
Combat-wombat November 25, 2004, 04:12 AM While I think the gun will be allright, I must comment on your friend's poor taste in beer. :p
fivepaknh November 25, 2004, 05:27 AM He never said he was shooting and drinking. He was probably cleaning his weapon while enjoying a brew. It didn't take long for the preaching to surface.

Oh the horror! Planet earth, repository of all guns and all beer. What's a mother to do?

P.S. Though I must admit that I have a hard time calling Wudbowser Light - 'beer'.
