Only place I know is Iron Sights, in Oceanside. I don't really have any specific plans, just an itchy right index finger that hasn't been scratched in far too long.

Are you going to create some sort of plan??

Thing is, other than in competition, I've never actually shot _with_ anyone else. I was kinda hoping someone else would come up with a plan. I just wanna get out and shoot! I'm thinking Friday afternoon, but I don't like Iron Sights that much.

Would you rather shoot at a range or out in the desert? I prefer the desert. Just pick a place and a time. Project 2000 is a pretty good indoor range in the SD area if you prefer a conrolled enviroment.

I shoot up at Orosco Ridge, the Natl Forest shooting area near Ramona. I have a year-long parking pass and the combination to the gate-lock.
Fridays are bad for me, though, as I have to work. On weekends, it's wise to get up to Orosco Ridge real early, as it's a popular spot for weekend shooters.
I highly recommend you call the NICE folks at the Cleveland Natl Forest's office (the numbers in the phone book), and talk to them about Orosco Ridge. It's a lot closer than Imperial County, and it's NOT a rigid-rules for-profit rifle range.

Do you ever go out to Jucumba?? I shoot out there allot and have never had any problems. It's off the 8 east.

I work 14-16 hour days on weekends, so that's out for me.

The desert sounds fine; like I said, I only know one place, and I don't like it that much. Anywhere that's good is good for me.

Where in Jacumba can one shoot? Is it BLM land?

Yes, i believe it is BLM land. There are always a few folks out there shooting. I checked with the locals including law enforcement and Border Patrol and they all said it was ok. You take 8 east until you reach Jacumba. Take the Jacumba exit and go right, there should be a gas station there. After that the road comes to T, you want to make that left at the T. Follow the road about 200 yards and you should see a group of folks shooting off to your right.

That might be a nice change from Orosco Ridge. Last time I was there, it was awfully crowded.
Are the folks in Jacumba into paper targets, or can I take some pumpkins (or such-like) to shoot at?

I've never see anybody shoot paper up there. Most shoot produce, water jugs and other crap.

My understanding is they close Orosco Ridge when its been really wet to prevent damage to the dirt road. After this past week, I'd be sure to check in with Park Service before going.

Hm, their website implies it is still open: Park Service (http://www.fs.fed.us/r5/cleveland/conditions/)

And you MUST have the parking pass!

(I won't be able to make it Friday, sigh)

I'm in San Diego county, and I work out near Jacumba. I'm up for shooting anytime, anywhere (legally, of course :) ) so San Diegans, get to posting!
