Someone please tell me exactly what I just bought. I picked it up at a local sporting goods store for $100.

It appears to be No.1 Mk.III body chambered in .308. On the band it is marked:

RIFLE
7.62mm2A1
R.F.I.
1967

On the reciever, this is stamped:
N.A.(can't read). (Can't read, 8 Letters) 308 India

Thanks

EIDT: my server is down now. Lets see if I can figure out how to attach pics

That's an Ishapore Enfield 2A1. You can read an article about the 2A & 2A1 Enfield here:

Yep an Ishapore. Pretty nice rifles actually. Had one that shot pretty darn good. Has sights adjustable to what 800 meters?

Guess the most common problem if worn is the mag's hop out upon firing. J&G sales out west sometimes had new mags. Not sure if they still have them.

I liked mine better than the old .303 Enfield. Maybe just because it shot .308 ammo.

Ishapore 2A has the 2000 meter sights. 2A1 has the 800 meter sights. My 2A is a real great shooter. Best $125 I have spent since descending into milsurp madness.

Anybody got a link where these are available online?

Cool, thanks. All I knew when I bought it was that it was an Enfield and it was in .308. I had been looking for a .308 milsurp, and I had been looking for (another) Enfield (up to three now). This seemed to fit the siutation perfectly.

And, as an added bonus, the bore is a perfect mirror.

Most 2A1's were gunrack queens in India's police stations. Be aware that some will have oil-soaked and rotted foreends from sitting barrel up for so long. Yes, they have gorgeous bores because they were very rarely shot.

I love mine, but I need to make time to fit my new stock set.

Mine shoots so good I am afraid to take it apart. Might screw something up.

Anybody got a link where these are available online?

I got mine from a local guy who had a table at the Canby gun show last October. He had it underpriced IMHO.

Haven't seen them in large quantites like the No1MIII's and No4 MkI Enfields. My literature says only 250,000 were made.

A hundred bucks for an Ishapore? You did OK.

Clean it up, shoot it, have fun and don't Bubba-ize it.

don't Bubba-ize it

Don't worry, I love my rifles the way they are!

I do know that Century did bubba-ized a few of them into 308 Mark 5 Jungle carbines...had my eye on one at the local gun store, but wanted too much for it.... My Ishapore was bought at a auction for $70....Had a fun time getting the paint off of it, seems like they repainted them after the first coat started to peel, real nice....

Forget where the heck I got mine - coupla years or more ago. It is a pleasure to shoot but - mine does not group well. Cost?, danged if I remember but not too far off $100 IIRC. Nice to have in the Kolecshun!!

Not sure if the scope is somewhat wasted on this one tho - bore is good.

Thanks all!

I was walking around the gun show today, and seen these here and there for $200-300. I guess you were right when I say I got a good deal.

Sadly, I gotta wait about three weeks to shoot her (heading back to college with no guns this trip, don't have time to shoot) :(
