In the past two weeks we've had two tragic events at nightclubs where over 110 people died. The handwringing save me from myself crowd is already calling for legislation to prevent that from ever happening again. They are demanding accountability and someone's head will have to roll. At least for the Rhode Island nightclub fire....
In regards to the Chicago stampede, it's quiet....Hizzonor has started a grand crusade to disarm those of us who are unfortunate enough to live in Illinois outside of Chicago. Well, why don't we turn the tables? 21 people are dead because the Daley administration didn't enforce the order closing the club for violations of the city codes. Perhaps if he put half the resources into the code enforcement division as he puts into worrying about if I can own a gun in Southern Illinois those 21 people might be alive today. The St. Louis Post Dispatch reported that the nightclub may have been open in violation of the codes because the owners were connected to Jesse Jackson....hmmmm...do we have a similar case to the licenses for bribes scandal that the Ryan administration (who I have no love for) was involved in?
Where are the lawsuits? Where are the charges of official misconduct? What about a federal investigation into who in the mayors office knew what and was issuing permits or instructions not to enforce the order closing the club?
Maybe we can give Daley something besides guns to worry about. How do we get a special federal prosecutor to look into this? One from outside the district that includes Chicago.
Any ideas?
Jeff
