And my favorite quote from the story:

"This rifle will go toward protecting our children," Hupp said in statement explaining why she donated the firearm.

Yeah, more guns! Do it "for the children"!!

Good story. If only this would start a trend. :D :D

God bless Texas!

A couple of years ago I bought a raffle ticket in Mesquite for some kind of tricked-out bolt gun. As I recall, the raffle was raising money to send high school girls to cheerleader camp. There were several cuties in their uniforms hanging out at the gunstore for... motivation?... inspiration?... to induce brain-lock in the male customers?

When I was in high school in Denton, TX in 1990, the Agricultural team had a Winchester 700 on display for in the Ag building for raffle. I thought they were going to get into trouble, until I read the fine print in the law, regarding principals specifically allowing a firearm for a specific purpose. They were okay. :)

Have I mentioned my pride at being a Texan?

Back in high school when I was in the ROTC we used to have fully functional M1 Garands. :what: I joined the drill tem for that reason. It also got us out of school for a couple of hours at least once a week for to a 21 gun salute for the funeral of some veteran who had passed.

Not only in Tx., though.

This was a pretty common thing in Arkansas while I was growing up, also.
