Based upon what the pistol gurus said on this forum (Tuner, Fuff, et al) I had my local gunsmith replace the collet bushing on my Mk4/Series 70 1911.

I only put a few rounds through it but it seems to work fine.

Only, it was a bear to remove the bushing for cleaning. After I had disassembled the gun, I didn't think I was going to be able to get the bushing out.

Ques: I realize it should be snug, but how snug? Is it desirable to be that tight?

Afer you have it apart, smear the bushing with some JB Bore Compound and then install it and turn it back and forth as far as it will go in each direction with your bushing wrench until it gets smoothed out so it turns easy. I like them tight enough to have to use a bushing wrench but that is just me. Bringing the slide back an inch when you want to take it oput may help a little. Tight is good unless you are in a foxhole with a muddy gun.
