My dad's thinking about getting rifle/shotgun combo gun and asked me what I thought of them.I've never used them so I was wandering if you'll had any advise on who makes them and which ones are the good, the bad, and the ugly. He'll be using it for critter calling so the rifle barrel needs to be small caliber.

They're all pretty good. None of them (at least that I know of) are great. I think you will be happy with a .22LR, .22 Hornet or .223 over 20 ga or 12 ga. For a short range, small game/bird gun they have a lot going for them.

Had Savage 24 since 1970s. Heavy and not necessarily pretty, but very functional. Mine has .222 and 20 ga. mag. The "go to" gun for coyotes. Got rigged with 3 X 9 "turkey scope" to handle bottom barrel recoil. If replacing it today, I'd probably look hard for .223/12 gauge. Ya can probably find such on Savage web site. Gun might have to be ordered as not many on shelves. Just guessing around $450.
