Although I agree with a lot of the resentment that is expressed over the control that states are putting on us as gun owners, I think someone forgot that the constitution and it's ammendments are controls for the federal government. The states are free to develop their own rules of social conduct as they see fit. The federal government is not allowed to establish a religion, but the states are and some existed for some time after 1776. It has been so long since the foundations of this country has been taught that we have lost a lot of what the founders said and ment. This is allowing a revisionist class to rewrite history in our schools thus shaping the way our future citizens think and what they will accept.

The federal government is not allowed to establish a religion, but the states are and some existed for some time after 1776. Your statement was accurate for the first 90ish years of the republic (although the correct date is 1798, not 1776). However, it it not accurate today and has not been accurate for about 140ish years. The 1st Amt applies to the states via incorporation into the 14th and thus the U.S. Constitution bars the states from establishing religions.
