I plan on adding a new 1911 soon and would like opinions please on which one would be a good choice based on your experience with these manufactures- Kimber Custom II or Dan Wesson Pointman or Panther.
Thanks.

Out of those choices, my personal preference would be one of the Dan Wessons. Probably the Panther, but I wouldn't be ashamed of the Pointman either.

I don't believe you would go wrong with any of those choices. You may want to check out the new SW1911 from Smith & Wesson also.

I have a Kimber Custom II and it is a great gun. Its the most accuate center fire pistol that I've owned. On the other hand I have read nothing but good reviews of Dan wessons. check out 1911forum.com lots of info over there.

Hello. If you prefer the internal firing pin safety, go with the Kimber or the S&W. If not, Dan Wesson. Right now, were I buying a new 1911 and choosing between these three, I'd go with the DW.
Best.

You could buy a slightly used SIG P239 .40, and a mint S&W CS9 9mm for a few bucks more.

Dan Wesson. Unless of course it is a pre-series-II Kimber, then buy the Kimber.

I've looked and looked and...well, you get the idea. :) But the Dan Wesson looks like a bargain to me. I've looked at so many 1911's, the names have kinda melded together in my brain, but Shooter's Supply in Louisville sells the new (I think) stainless steel, full size Dan Wesson 1911 for less than $700.00. FWIW, that's what I would pick.

I'd like to see some more DW guns before voting.
I've only seen 3 DW autoloaders and I wasn't impressed with the fit of the small parts - safety, grip safety, mainspring housing, etc.
I haven't looked at any of the Kimbers in the past year or two because I have the one I want. I do 'look' at the Kimbers in the glass case in passing - that's how I ended up handling one of the DW guns - I just don't bother taking a close look.

I've had pretty good luck with Kimbers.

COK,
I'm happy with mine. I've heard they use the same frame and slide as Wilson's.
Kimbers have the tightest slide to frame and barrel fit compared to other production run 1911's, IMO. And not to mention, they are the ones that raised the bar on production 1911's. If not for them, our 1911 choices from the manufacturers would still be...well.. pretty bland. :(
Kimber added alot of flavors to 1911 that only a custom maker would do, for alot of money.
But if money is a real concern, DW is not a bad choice either. It's your call! Good luck!
