Glock 17 Range Report and a question

Okay, so it's a Glock 17 and everybody and their brother has one......so why read my range report? I don't know, maybe you're as bored as I.

First my question....Are you the kind of person that it bothers you to put Hogue slip on grips on a Glock because it isn't part of the gun? Or, am I just wierd? I think the gun would be quite comfortable with them, it ain't bad now, but I carry it concealed under a shirt and wondered if the rubber will stick....also it kinda looks ugly...and the Glock don't need help in that dept.

Okay now the report.

quick shooting I shot American Eagle 147 gr. flat points which group great. The bullets print a tiny bit low at 21 ft. however that could just be me trying to get used to the grip angle. At 21 feet I shot the center out of a bulls eye with one eye closed but with both eyes open, shoot about a 1/2 inch low and left consistantly. A range master informed me that this was the effect of my eyes competing for dominance, but I kinda like that since I can aim left handed almost as comfortably right handed.

At 33 feet the gun was smack on....almost without trying. At 50, 60 and 75 feet the gun really came into the CZ75 catagory. I was shooting about a 1 1/2 to 2 inch group with Federal 147 gr. hydrashocks...I would shoot from an "triangle stance" which is what I call an Isosceles because I can't spell Isosceles. :p

I would take a long, carefully measured shot with careful breathing and actually get a bulls at 75 feet, which is wierd cause I couldn't even see the bulls. At that distance with contrast of the size of the front sight was bigger than the center of the target.

Needless to say that I am 100% please with this weapon, which is strange cause I HATED my Glock 22. I'm glad I gave Glock another look.

Now, should I Hogue grip this thing to satisfy the shooter in me or leave it alone to satisfy my inner minimalist and vanity?

EDIT: forgot to mention the ammo used was 147gr. flatpoint American Eagle, 125 grain Federal hydrashock 147 gr. hydrashock and no malfunctions....of course.

alduro,

I've owned Glocks on and off since they first came out in the mid 80's. The very first one I owned I hated. I guess it was just too unique for my classic wood and steel tastes at that time.

Since then I've come to appreciate plastic and stainless steel, or in the case of Glock, its Tenifer finished metal.

To answer your question. I'd "leave it alone to satisfy my inner minimalist and vanity" I would not add the Houge handall grip. I too own a G17 (3rd generation) and like the pure look of not having any add on accessories.

Good Shooting,

Rob

Thanks Rob...I my inner minimalist agrees with you....my inner shooter may require a *gasp* second Glock.

I use the Decal Grips (side panels only) on all of mine. Increases grip size, improves grip surface w/out making them sticky, and not too obvious.

Needless to say that I am 100% please with this weapon, which is strange cause I HATED my Glock 22.

I just received a conversion barrel for my G22 for 9mm. It is going to be shot a lot more often now that I can use reloaded 9mm and lead too! And my wife likes it a little better since the recoil is less than the .40 was. I am amazed the barrel works so reliably and was quite accurate too.

The Glock 17 is my all-time favorite 9mm pistol. To date, I have 4800rnds through mine without any problems. I also use Glock +2 extensions so I have 20rnd in the weapon, which is very nice at times. For grips, I found that the hogue sleeves turned and shifted during extended shooting sessions, I recently tried the AGrip with great results, you may want to check one out.

I'll look into those grip options. Oh by the way, for getting Hogues Handall not to turn, try some basic Scotch 2 sided tape on each side. Somthing tells me this would work.

I resisted the Glocks for along time. To someone raised on 1911's and S&W wheelguns they were some strange looking beast. And made out of....PLASTIC????

One day i finally broke down and bought a G23. Big mistake. I currently own five and i'm looking at a couple more.

While a Glock will never give me that warm fuzzy feeling i get from a nicely tuned 1911, they get the job done.

The Hogue slip grip on seemed to give my 23 a better "feel". Other than that, all my Glocks are factory stock.

Being the starving student that I am, I used a piece of broken bicycle inner tube to improve the grip on my Glock. Maybe not as good as a Hogue, but somewhat cheaper.

Nothing wrong with putting a Hogue Handall on your Glock, as long as the finger grooves fit your finger. It made the grip on my Ruger feel better. I don't think it looks ugly on a Glock. Congrats on your new model 17. I don't own one but I've fired a 17 and also a 19. You've got one of the most reliable pistols there is.
