Thinking of a Steyr M9

From what I have heard, all the bugs have been worked out. I am interested in one and would like to know if anyone has any experience with them. Also, what serial # and higher should I look for. How about a Walther P99, even though I could almost buy 2 Steyrs for that price.

I own a steyr M 40.

A better design than the glock in my opinion with a way better trigger.

downsides are lack of accessories and its hard to track down parts.

the sights take some getting used to but can be replaced for about 50$ if you cant get used to them.

my .40 is acurate, it has a snappy recoil but it is a .40

it,s a head turner at the range and if you get it you wont have regrets.

parts arent that hard to come by. if the us importer doesnt have what you need, contact the canadian importer. i've ordered magazines and sights from them.
dont have their contact info anymore, i think i posted it up here or on glocktalk, maybe tfl, do a search for 'steyr' posts, its in there somewhere.

My brother likes his Steyrs very much. He has a S9 and a M9, I think. I shot the S9 and it is a neat gun, I would like to get a Steyr at some point. That being said I am a huge P99 fan, I have three 9mms and will be getting a P99C as soon as finances allow. CDNN has P99's right now for $449, that is a great price, I would buy another from them if I could afford it. I say go for the P99, I don't think you will be disappointed.

I have both an M9 and S9. The S9 was just acquired last week, but I have no opinion of it other than the fact that it fits my hand better than my G26. My M9 has been to the range a few times and it's been totally reliable with everything I've tried. The trap sights aren't all that great for target work, but I'll bet this gun really shines with IDPA. Steyr is, apparently, in the process of bringing out an updated model. Heard lots about them, but haven't actually seen one. They seem to be about as fast as H&K getting things to market. Both seem to be well made. If you think you might want an M9 look over at www.cdnninvestments . They don't sell guns online, but you can download their catalog and get a look at what they have. A CDNN employee lurks in the Steyr forum at www.glocktalk.com . Seems like a pretty nice guy and, I believe, he says that they have plenty of M9s available. M40s are nearly gone. S40s are gone. Can't remember about S9s. S9 & 40 are discontinued (bad move) as is the M9, however, the M9 is being replaced by are restyled version (I hear mags will interchange between the new gun and M series).

Does anyone know how tough the finish on the P99 is, would I be better off with the titanium coated version? How about factory hi caps?

I have the M9 on my list of guns I would like to get. I am saving for a nice Camera set up now. That is going to take at least 6 months of saving, so the M9 and whatever else comes up will have to wait.

I already own 2 highcaps for the M9 :D

Does anybody still have hi-caps for the M9s? I ordered two in the group-buy over the summer but come September my magazines were "lost in the mail." :cuss:

If Steyr had introduced the M9 in the mid 80's we'd be saying "what's a Glock?". :D

'nuff said

Right, but instead they introduced the Steyr GB, which leaves us saying "What's a Steyr GB?"

If my friend's Steyr M9 is representative of all Steyr M9's, then I say its indeed a very good gun for your $$$. I was skeptical at first when he said he'll buy one. But when he got it, and I've tried it, I was really impressed. The only thing I don't like is the grip angle. It points higher than the Glock 17 I have. But like all else, the owner can always adopt to that.

CDNN has hicaps...errr.....I mean, standard capacity mags for it (gotta get used to it now :) ). I think it goes for $30?

Look for serial numbers higher than a 10,000

I would say get the Steyr they are a very good gun for the price and there is no way a P99 is twice as good a Steyr.

You could wait and get the 2ed generation of Steyr and it would still be cheaper than the P99.

As nice as the P99 is I don't think it's worth the money. For what they're asking I would get a Sig or Sig Pro.

A SigPro is an exceptional gun. I have one. Along with 4 standard capacity mags. You get a 15 round capacity. The SigPro is a little bigger than the Steyr and not nearly as streamlined. However, SigPros still regularly turn up for under $450 around here (I paid $400 for mine and it would be one of the last guns I sell).
