Has anyone decided on what they're buying to close out '04? Me, I just found a Kimber Custom II at a really good price (for CA at least) so I'm done for the year...anyone else?

For me depending on funds (i.e. how generous I am to other people this year) it's gonna be either a milsurp bolt action (yugo mauser or K31) or Browning Hipower.

Looks like 2004 will end with the two long guns I picked up from a friend. A 1950 Wingmaster and a Savage .22 heavy barrel bolt action. I was in the market for neither, but the price was great and he needed the $. We both came out OK.

Unless I stumble onto something amazing in the used S&W market (always looking), nothing new on table.

I'm keeping my fingers crossed that my 1911 being worked on by Ted Yost will be ready this month. He quoted 6 months back in early June. Would make an AWESOME Christmas gift... :D

Well, I am getting myself one handgun (kind of) and one rifle.

The rifle is a 917M2S Marlin 17HM2 stainless with gray laminate stock. Something to play with.

Handgun is a Savage Striker stainless bolt action pistol in 243 cal. with the muzzle brake. It has a silver Burris 2-7 scope. It should give me lots of play time.

I got a Mossberg 500 Persuader and a cheapo 22 rilfle for practicing my rifle technique at indoor ranges.

Also picked up a present for my Mom since she's taken more of an interest in shooting lately. A S&W M60 Lady Smith. Also going to give her about 200 rounds of my hand loaded 158 gr JHP 38 Special ammo.

I'm sure my Dad will get some use out of it too ;) He's getting a set of Caldwell rests, some defensive ammo for his Firestar, and a few other little goodies.

I was all set to buy a CZ75B satin nickel .40S&W, until I remembered that I live in Missouri. I lived in Kansas before, but moved across the state line when we bought our house a few years ago. Hadn't bought any guns since then, and I discovered that in MO, you have to get a permit for "intent to purchase" a handgun from the local sheriff. I realize that other places...CA, NJ, MA, et. al...are worse than MO, but I've never had to get a permit to buy a gun from anybody before, and I'm not ready to start now. So, as long as I live in the "Show Me" state, I won't be buying any guns. How utterly sad...

"Sorry to hear your funds will be dried up from that...."

Don't be.
I have been spending the vast majority of my take home pay for over 20 years on guns, ammunition, reloading tools, components, training, accessories................ In fact, one of the major reasons why I needed to buy a new house was to have somewhere to put all this stuff. In my present "living room" I have three work benches completely dedicated to metalic cartridge handloading and nothing else: no TV, no furniture.
I am now going to channel my money in a different direction and I can't see why I couldn't spend the next dozen lifetimes shooting the guns and ammo that I already own.
Most people get out of school, get a job, get married, start a family, get into debt........as fast as they can and then wish they had the money to buy toys. I did the opposite: I bought all the toys I could and then decided to settle down and get into serious debt.

Completes my set for cowboy shooting, and I just ALWAYS wanted one.

Now, there's only 2 left on my list of absolutely WILL own before I die;

1. A Tommy Gun (semi-auto)

2. A Weatherby w/a Leupold scope.

On Monday I found another original Charter Arms Pathfinder, .22LR, 3" barrel and adjustable sights. This one is like new, complete with the original yellow and brown card-board box and instruction "book".

Even more uncommon, at least around here, and sitting just three guns over in the same case, was a High Standard Sentinel MKIV, .22WMR, 3" full lugged barrel and adjustable sights. This one is in very excellent condition, a few rubs in the wood grip’s finish, but the blue is pristine and the timing perfect!

The best deal I could get was $250 out the door for the pair... but I was OK with that, so they now have a new home!

I wasn't really planning on getting myself anything to close out the year, but......... :D

I had to go out today to get avocado's and cat litter (great combination, huh?) and just happened to be driving by the gun store that is no where even close to the supermarket. I waved 'hello' to the crew and wandered the store, waiting for the small crowd at the counter to disperse. I noticed a 2 tone 1911 in the used handgun display, but I couldn't get close enough to see what it was. Another shopper was looking intently at that particular gun and talking to the salesman about it. I heard the words "Kimber" and "Compact CDP" float out of that corner of the store, and then the phrase that makes my checkbook run for cover:

"It's a Series 1 if that means anything to you....."

So much for being polite. I didn't exactly push my way through the crowd, but I didn't slow down much either.

Here's my new baby with his two big brothers:

I picked up a P3-AT yesterday morning, parkerized for $210 (same price as the blued).

Then went out and fired it later that same day. Shot at some bulletproof glass and the richochet hit me!

Well, UPS screwed up and gave me overnite service for the price of second day, so I got it on 12-31-04 so I can be a proud member of this thread after all! :)
