I dunno how to answer the poll, since I shoot at least 100 rounds at the range for every round that I shoot in the field while hunting. But I'm at the range to get better at shooting in the field.

:)
My primary purpose is hunting.
My primary usage is plinking.
I've been doing it long enough that the skill-thing is built in to my shooting. So, it mostly winds up as, "Shootin' is fun!"

With pistols, I shoot the most in training for IPSC competitions, same goes for shotguns and skeet/trap. But now with rifles I spend my time developing loads for accuracy at the range, figuring out drop at range, and then get out and shoot a lot of ground squirrels.

Is it plinking if you are trying to hit a small piece of paper out at 300 yards? :scrutiny:
The vast majority of my actual shooting time is on the range plinking (either at small pieces of paper or chasing a coke can around the field ;) ). However the major use of my rifles is just to provide ballast to keep the safe from tipping over :( (IOW I need to get out more :D ).

There was no choice for "rifles and ammo needed to keep the house from blowing away in the wind".

Making holes in paper and as an excuse to experiment with various reloads. I don't really count that as Plinking, althougt it's closest, so I picked Other.

How do you edit a poll?

Overall, my rifles' main "purpose" is big game, predator, and small game hunting.
The main "use" they see is target shooting, just for fun, practice, and experimentation.

I voted big game, but that isn't really true. Our big game are White Tails and they are really just medium game. Don't hunt moose or elephant.

rbernie summed up my uses...
i do a lot of prairie doggin', targets, and experimentation just so i can be a more efficient hunter.
so, for primary usage it is target shooting and varminting.
primary purpose for the usage is to hunt mule deer, whitetail deer, antelope, and elk.

What a biased poll. I guess I will vote plinking even though varminting is a close second and I do all of the rest.

Please explain the bias so I can improve future polls.

Sorry I was sort of kidding because as many others have commented, it is hard to pin down that "one" major shooting catagory. Maybe bias wasn't the right word.

Mostly I use my rifles to look at. Have several that haven't been fired in years.

originally, each rifle had a specific use.my varmiter for varmiting,my marlins for squirrel hunting and the bigger guns for just collecting and shooting when I ran low on ballistic ammo for my varmiter.shotguns..fun for those times when there would be 3 or 4 groundhogs out, eating behind a farm building.
pretty much everything now is all varmiting or plinking(when I miss its plinking :D ) where I can drive back and get out and sit till the groundhogs start peeking out.
