at my shooting range, a guy sels his Smith & Wesson 4506 .45 ACP, stainless with 5" barrel for € 400 (about the same in $). I always wanted a .45 ACP, and S&W has a good reputation. above all that, the 4506 is a big powerful pistol that looks really cool. but on the other hand, €/$ 400 is a lot of money (for a 19 year old student). would you buy the gun for € 400? I did a search on the internet, and this type of gun mostly sels at about € 600 used, and € 900+ new.

I have never met a S&W 45 ACP that I did not like. I really like the S&W 4506. I think that you would be very happy with the gun, if the price is right for you.

Good luck,

Charles

Regarding the price on a 4506 in excellent condition, here is one that just sold on Auction Arms for $425:

4506 sale on Auction Arms (http://www.auctionarms.com/search/displayitem.cfm?ItemNum=3977530)

I looked up the current Euro/Dollar exchange rate, and the Euro is worth about $1.08 today. So your 400 Euro price is about (400 x 1.08) = $432.

Based on this I'd say the price is certainly right, if the gun is in excellent condition. This model has a good reputation for quality, and it is certainly a cheaper way to shoot .45 ammo than a 1911 by Colt or Kimber, which would cost you considerably more. I'd go for it.

The 4506 I had was a nice shooter. But I learned after shooting it a bit the grip just didn't work for me. If the grip fits ya & you can live w/ the price (which sounds like you got a deal by the way), you're fine.

If it's in excellent condition don't pass it up. SW has great customer care too. Even though you're in Belgium, if something should break the local SW distribuitor will likely take care of you.

Personally, I don't really care for S&W autos in general but the one exception is the 4506. Its very accurate, reliable, and very durable. My local range has one for rent and I shoot it every chance I get. Needless to say that particular 4506 has seen better days. It has been discontinued here in the states so make sure you can get extra mags for it.

Sounds like a good opportunity to me.:D

thanks everyone for the reactions, I guess € 400 should be considered as a bargain. I hope I can buy this pistol, but I doubt it since here in Belgium you can own maximum 10 firearms in one house, and guess what: we already have 11!
doesn't stop me from trying however :D

If you do get it and dont like the stock grip ,try Hogue grips on it .:)
