Can anyone recommend an online resource for Smith & Wesson dates of manufacture? All the search engines have provided are books for sale. I would like to get an idea of the age of the Model 63 I have recently acquired, serial number M117XXX.

Huck, the Standard Catalog Of Smith & Wesson lists serial number range M100000-M130000 made from 1978-1979. Hope this helps!

Thanks! That'll do it. I was more curious than anything else. For a 25 year old pistol, it would seem I have bought a safe queen. My new toy shows only very subtle signs of use.
