Like REAL high..at IDPA I have to aim at the neck to make head shots..this is a fixed sighted gun.....how can I fix this....is seems to happen all the ammo weights I've used too.....125gr(38),130gr(38) and 158 gr(357)......I have gotten used to aiming low,but because of this high shooting,I don't trust this gun as a defensive weapon..too much thinking involved....

See if Ruger will sell you a taller front sight blade.

Both my speed six's shoot low with .38 special 125 gr., 148 gr., and 158 gr. bullets. Easy cure was to file down the front sight, but they only hit point aim with one bullet weight.

You're shooting high so you need a taller front sight. Could a gunsmith fabricate one? If he can then make it taller than necessary so you can file it down, a little at a time, until your chosen bullet weight hits where you're aiming.

I don't know IPDA rules. Is bullet weight and velocity mandated? If not then find somebone who reloads. I believe a 125 gr. loaded to a lower velocity then what you tried will hit lower, but maybe not low enough. If that doesn't work then get some lighter lead bullets (Midway U.S.A., for one, sells 100 gr.) and see if a reloader can tailor them to hit point of aim for you.

You could load your bullets to a higher velocity...that will make them hit lower.

Otherwise, you need to make your front sight taller, or your rear sight lower. - JM.

As noted above higher velocity will cause the bullets to shoot lower as the gun doesn't have as much time to rise in recoil before the bullet exits the barrel. Also, use the lightest bullet you can to get it to shoot lower. If this doesn't work you could find a gunsmith to make a dovetailed front sight to the correct height.

Try 125 gr .357's if you don't reload.

What Bob F. said reminded me of the following: Twice before I've heard that Ruger's like the Speed Six usually hit POA with full-power .357 magnum 125 gr. JHP's. I never tried it because I don't use that load.

Tony - you need to send your Speed Six to me. I'll thoroughly study the issue, collecting lots of data along the way. I estimate it will take about 2 years to complete this study.
But seriously . . . Does it shoot high for others? When you aim for the neck to make head shots, what range are we talking about? How long have you had it and was it used when you bought it?

usual IDPA distances....I did buy it used...I will try the 357 125gr. load(hopefully this weekend)I'll report back......oh yeah,it does shoot high for others too..

You might try Numrich for a replacement front sight. If you get the one for the Security Six, it will be taller than the standard Speed Six sight but will fit just fine. It is pretty easy to replace the front sight on a Speed Six: drift out the pin and remove the old sight. Place the new sight in the slot and mark the correct place for the pin hole. Remove the sight and drill the hole. Then place it in the slot and insert the pin.

Millett also makes a replacement front sight for both Speed and Security Sixes with either a white or orange insert.

If you are not completely confident in your shooting skills, have problem verified by another experienced shooter.

Then I'd give Ruger a call, they just might fix it for free.

I personally expect a gun to hit a bulls eye at 25 yards, with 158 grain bullet, at six o'clock position on standard target.

If it is as far off as you say, it ain't right. Ruger should fix it.

I've found that they give me what I want, as long as I do my homework.

Since there is a degree of judgement here, you may have to send it back more than once.
