I just picked up what looks to be a never fired Norinco SKS for $149 bucks. I know you can get brand new Yugoslavian SKS's for right around the same money, I don't know how these rifles compare to the other versions of the SKS, but I think I got a pretty good deal. Anybody have any recommendations for an aftermarket synthetic for it?

You got a good deal. The Norinco's are a bit lighter than the Yugo's, and have a chrome-lined barrel (if that sort of thing appeals to you).

I've tried a couple of synthetic stocks for the SKS (one no-name, and one Butler Creek), and I find that I actually prefer the wood - it's easier to bed, and it's generally sturdier.

That is a lot cheaper than the Norinco I picked up last week. Mine was the "paratrooper model" with a decent    plastic stock, b-square mount, and a Simmons scope.

For around here it wasn't a bad deal though. A regular length Norinco with wood stock and no scope or mount was only $20 lessthan what I paid.

They are very fun to shoot. I went out and put about 50 rounds through my SKS Tuesday and another 30 rounds this afternoon.

Enjoy!!!
