How about a brief description of your 10/22 (or picture)--especially if it's modified.

Then tell us about the best group you and your rifle have fired.

Please list ammo and distance.

Someone asked about 10/22 accuracy and I gave what I'm pretty sure is a good answer, but it made me curious...

35yrds, Federal bulk ammo, Bushnell 3-9X scope. Wasn't modified then, wouldn't recognize the gal now. I know it's not a group, but it's one of my favorite pics.

Someone asked about 10/22 accuracy

That was me... And I'm still torn between a CZ 452 and a Ruger 10/22. Very very torn... Maybe some amazing accuracy reports will sway me.

"Maybe some amazing accuracy reports will sway me."

Okay. Buy a CZ. Based on what I've seen.

I started shooting almost 10 years before Ruger starting selling the 10/22. That was in 1964 IIRC.

John...and no, I don't like them. If someone would like to give me one of those $1200 jobs to try out I'd sell it and buy a Cooper.

No need to mince words! ;)

Had a lot of fun with mine, and was impressed with the accuracy enough to make a webpage:

and the choice is between the 10/22 and the CZ 452, I may be tempted by the CZ. I've heard some nice things. But it will never grow up to look as cool as a 10/22 can.

That's the thing... It's not my only criteria. The criteria are (1) accuracy and (2) the ability to put an aftermarket target stock on it--preferably thumbhole. It looks like there's one--and only one--place to get aftermarket CZ stocks, unless I'm mistaken.

If anyone knows where to get them, please let me know. Otherwise, back to JohnKSa's thread... How accurate is your 10/22?

I have a 10/22 that I customized heavily and a bone-stock CZ 452 Lux, and right now, accuracy is pretty much a wash between them. For a while, I had the same scope on both, and I could shoot groups of 1/2" to 1" all day long at 50 yards from the bench. Keep in mind though that the Ruger ended up costing about twice as much as the CZ, by the time I finished modifying it.

If you're dead set on replacing the stock, go for the Ruger. You'll have a much bigger choice (as you've discovered) and it will be easier to get a few bucks for the old one. Besides, the CZ comes with a pretty nice piece of wood on it already.

That has been my observation as well between my modified 10/22 on my 452 Lux(started life as a Special). The 10/22 has a Shilen match barrel and a Fajen stock and the trigger has been smoothed up.

In pure stock condition there was no contest between the CZ and 10/22 - the CZ smoked the 10/22 completely! In fact my Ruger MKII and S&W41 were easily capable of laying waste to my stock 10/22 and they are handguns!

I'll include a pic of some 10/22 groups shot at 50 yards. There are 5 shot groups and 4 ten shot groups off to the right. Actually found some very good lots of CCI std. vel. that shot as good as match Eley and Federal! This is with the match barrel of course.

my bone-stock 10/22 is much more accurate than me, using bulk Federal High Velocity 40gr ammo.

No pics, but I have plinked 9mm cases at 25 yds with no trouble at all (using open sights)

That's plenty accurate for my purposes.

i've never grouped my 10/22. i use the gun to hunt small game, and one time, many moons ago i sighted it in for 25 yards. since then, i just grabbed it to hunt w/. when i used to hunt w/ it on a near daily basis, the rifle was capable of taking cottontails on demand out to 85 yards. beyond that became kinda iffy. anymore, the 10/22 just collects dust as i'd much rather be shooting centerfire. as i recall, though, the rifle was accurate enough for my purposes.

My 10/22 has a custom trigger that was done before I aquired it, a hogue overmolded stock, and a Magnum Research graphite wrapped barrel. I really like it, as it is VERY light. New shooters seem to like it as well for that very reason. The best group I have gotten was a 5-6 shot group at 100 yds that was about 1.25 inches across horizontally, vertical spread was about half that, using Winchester Wildcat. At the time I had set up a bench and was plinking at different things at 100 yds, and decided to shoot the rest of my magazine at a paper target. Since then i have not repeted groups like that, though that may be becuase I have yet to shoot in completely still conditions since (it's windy a lot here in South Dakota.)

That makes me(20/20 vision) feel like I should get my eyes checked! How were your casings set up?

"So how do you really feel about 10/22's, JohnBT?"

Hey, I'm irritating, but honest. I was quite outspoken when I was younger, but I'm trying to age gracefully ;)

I have glasses correcting my right eye to 20/15, which helps (I have astigmatism, and the extra correction makes it easier for me to drive at night)

the cases in question were resting on a big plastic bucket. I was firing from the sitting position, which also helped.

Lighting was very good (sunny day) which also helped.

You should try it, I can't imagine it's as hard as all that, if both me and my brother could do it.

I'm kinda scared to start a 10/22 project simply because I know it will could be my next money pit :what: As for accuracy, I once saw a guy at the range who had built up his 10/22 over the course of few months. EVery time I saw him, he'd tell me about this barrel, that stock, this & trigger, and finally him putting it together. When I finally saw it was a bute! The topper was a 10 shot, rapid fire group 25 yards that you could literally cover w/ a dime. I was impressed:cool:

Hi all. I have several custom 10/22 rifles, all are accurate. My most accurate one is used for NRA silhouette. It will average .3xx for a loooong string of 5-shot groups fired from the bench at 50 yards using wolf match target and match extra ammunition. the rifle is HIGHLY modified, to include the original prototype of the bughole tuner, a modified boyd's baster stock, glass bedding under the action screw, trigger housing tensioning screw, action tensioning screw, KIDD trigger, moly coated bolt and receiver interior, 10/22 mag bolt handle, chambered bolt, bolt buffer, green mountain barrel (surprise, surprise!), BKL rings and riser, bolt headspace set at .042, magnetic cartridge case deflector (so guy on line next to me won't go nuts with hot brass down the shirt collar!), etc. There is a picture of it in lawboy's picture gallery at www.rimfirecentral.com Regards.
