HD ammo

Enjoyed reading the thread on EBS HD. I have an 870 with mag ext and 20 rifle sight bbl with a light under the muzzle. Definitely an EBS!
Anyway, I'd like to hear ideas about ammo. For indoors, I've always worried that 00 would present too much of an over penetration problem. But, it sure brings things to a halt.

I keep my 18 inch mossberg filled with #4 buck so it wont overpenitrate.

Number 1 buck. This is what IWBA suggests for the best compromise between adequate penetration and overpenetration. Do a search for "Number 1 buck" here and see what you turn up.

I use "00" reduced recoil loads in mine. It's also backed up by
slugs. My home defense plan has fixed fields of fire for the SG so
I don't have to worry about an over penetrating shot hitting a
neighbors house or my kids room. The slugs are in case he/they
bring cover or take cover behind something heavier in my house.
Then I want the max. penetration of slugs. Plus the slugs on the
side of the gun help reduce felt recoil.
I guess what I'm getting at is tailor your loads to your plan.

I've a coupla ideas on HD ammo, But I'm going to do a new thread on it after working a few things out. A search pof the Archives here and at TFL will give you plenty of input.
I've had a hunch for years that 1 buck may be the best all around HD buck load. But, YMMV since all shooters, shotguns and locations vary.
It's imperative to try the ammo first, and to pattern and determine what works in YOUR situation.

IWBA says #1 buck is the cat's meow - but I can't find it anywhere & am staying with #4 buck till then (& pending my own evaluation if I can find it).
I'd just betcha that #4 close-in is as good as anything = same-same for 00 further out - matters.
Depends on what you have to use. Distance & use matters as much with anything HD as it does for patterning/density for ducks at 45 yards.
YMMV
