Taurus PT-99

I was doing some Christmas shopping today, and made the "mistake" of walking into a gun store. Anyhow, I'm now the owner of a PT-99 that is hardly used from what I can tell... the guy behind the counter said that the guy who traded it in bought it to carry, decided it was to big for carry, and traded it on something else.
There isn't so much as a mark in the finish, and once I cleaned it, the bore looks perfect. It is one of the newer models with the decocker and adjustable sights. I don't have much trouble believing that it was hardly used. Got the gun and 3 15rd mags for $358. How did I do? Going to shoot it tomorrow.
As a result, my older (no decocker or adjustable sights) and somewhat heavily worn PT-92 is going to be sold; probably to my roommate.

I have thought of buying a PT100 or 101 (.40S&W) version.
I'd love to hear what people here think about these weapons.
I used to have a Beretta 96 and wonder if the Taurus is as good quality-wise.

I've never seen one that is all the way up to par with a Beretta, but I've never seen a brand new one either. The one I bought today is definitely better than my old one.
Still, I think they are the best bang for the buck in autoloaders out there.

i love them especially the older pre-lock pre-decocker versions. i had a compact one that i traded for a glock 23 that i hated. :barf:

I have 2 and I love them. I just purchased 3 Mec Gar 17 round mags for each. Get o Stephan A Camps site and see his excellent eval of the Taurus 92-99 series. He rates them as a best buy. I do also. I carry a Sig 229 most of the time but I keep a T-92 in a military shoulder holster with a loaded mag with Ball M-882 just in case I have to grab every thing and throw it in the truck. I will also put in an HBAR, a Morrison Precision Savage, and am M-1 carbine my wife can use.

I bought a stainless 92 the same sort of way. I don't think the prvious owner ever put a round through it. I picked my up for $325 and I thought I got a good deal but I think yours was better with ethe extra mags and all. I love to shoot my 92. My only complaint is all the take up in the trigger on a single action pull but from what others have said that is pretty typical so I will just live with it. Its not Beretta but for hald the price I can't complain.

Yeah, my normal carry gun is a P226/.40, but I enjoy the Beretta/Taurus platform also. Here is a pic:

I intend to keep mine for a long long time unless I come by a good deal on one with a rail. I passed up a good price on a blued one when I bought mine but now I think I would like to have it since its just too large for me to carry comfortably.

I don't personally have one, but I have talked to people who do and they all seem to say the same thing, reasonably accurate, very reliable, and a good value for the dollar. I think $358 for an almost new model 99 with three high cap mags is a good deal.

Took it to the range yesterday, and fired 115 rds through it from 6 different mags, no problems. I'm happy.

I once had an early model (no decock, stamped slide) PT99. It was a very nice gun, but I got newgunitis and swapped it. Later I got a used PT92 with decock and laser etching. When I had it reblued, the slide markings were lost. Otherwise, it's a great gun. Both guns are great values.
I also own a Beretta 92F. Despite everything that's said about relative quality, I tend to prefer the Taurus.

I bought this a few days ago from the local dealer, $380.
I know the owner that had traded it in on a rifle. He had put only three rounds through it shooting a Rattlesnake on the road. :D
I've run about 200 hundred rounds of different loads and bullet shapes through it with not the first sign of a problem.
It seems to be most accurate with WW white box and one of my lead reloads.
Which is good since I've got about 10,000 rounds of that ammo. :)
Question.
It's got the klinton magazine. Any good source for hi cap mags and is the Beretta mag the same?

BLING! Not a bad deal though.
The Taurus does not share mags with the Beretta. They are similar, but not identical. The catch notch is not the same size... not sure if there are other differences. Check CDNN and the like for mags.

I think I cleaned out CDNN :uhoh:
I have two 92s. I just purchased one with the rails. M3 fits nicely :)
I almost went the Beretta route cause their better
But the frame-mounted safety outweighs the glitz of the Italian.
I have never had so much as a hiccup. Easy maintenance, easy takedown, reliable, accurate enough. I use Mec-Gar 17 rounders.

I had pt99 and loved it...traded it like a dope....the Beretta mags work, but you'll need to make the hole on the sides a little bigger.I bought a couple of 15 rd mags for like $20 each..they can be found.....mine was the older cocked and locked version....reliable and accurate. The only advantage I see with the Berettas is the finish...a buddy has the Elite, and we could switch parts with my PT99......
