I know this has been discussed before, but I think it will be useful to raise it again. I have two Saiga rifles coming from CDNN (great deal!) and would like to add optical scopes. I have done the research and have seen several scope mounts but can't decide which would be the best deal. Does anyone want to share experiences with mounts for the Saigas?

Do Saiga's come with the side-rail mount on the left side of the receiver?

I have a .308 Saiga that I have a PSO 6X24V Russian scope on. These scopes have great glass and an illuminated reticle that can be switched off and on. They slide right on the side mount that's on the Saiga and set a little to the left of the boreline, so you can still use your iron sights. I've heard the 8X42's are good also. Mine cost about $115 + shipping and the 8X42's are about $140 + shipping. Got mine from Tantal.

i had the mount that just had the one inch rings. i then had a variable magnification Simmons scope. I did not like the setup so i sold it. i just use the iron sights now and can blister a 2x4 at 75 yards no problem. i would look into the weaver rail mount that CDNN offers so that you have a wider variety of optics to put on there.

K-Var makes a wonderful scope mount for rail equipped rifles.
It has a 'Picatinney' type rail that allows any conventional Weaver style rings and any size scope to be mounted.
It sits lower than most of the rail mounts and you can't use the iron sights without removing the scope mount but this also makes it lots easier to bring the scope to zero.
It is about twice the price of comparable mounts and well worth the extra money spent.

When Izhmash designed the Saiga rifles and shotguns they also designed 2 scope mounts for them for scopes with 25.4mm/1 inch tubes. The scope mount model COK-AK.C6.17-01 is for Saiga's with fixed stocks. This model mount is imported by EAA which is the importer of the Saiga's.
The mount model COK-20C.C6.17 is for the Saiga "C" models with folding stocks and the "K" models with fixed military stocks. The stocks length of the C and K models are a couple inches shorter than the fixed stock Saiga's. So the mount for the fixed stock Saiga's positions the scope farther back to allow you to get the correct eye releif with the longer stock.
As you can see from this Russian scope mfgs. website they make many mounts that fit side rails on the receiver. The location of the rings on the mounts is different allowing you to position the scope for proper eye relief depending on stock length.
There are several mounts imported that can be used on Saiga's but some are for mounting scopes on AK rifles that have the shorter military stocks. Using one of these on a Saiga would put the scope too far forward. The mounts with the Weaver rail seems to be the universal one as you can adjust how far back or forward the scope is by where you put the rings on the Weaver rail.

Thanks to all for their comments. I decided to order a mount with a Weaver type rail from Centerfire Systems in Kentucky (http://www.centerfiresystems.com/miva/merchant.mv?Screen=PROD&Store_Code=CSI&Product_Code=MNTAKA11).

Whatever you buy, make sure the mounting part (where it mounts on the rail) looks LIKE THIS...
