Range Needed: Austin, Texas

In confirming my airline charter, rental car and hotel rooms for my biannual sojourn to Tejas this spring, I have been informed that my reception committee there will be occupied for most of the day and a half that I am there. For those of you who are in Austin or are familiar with Austin, where may one have access to a range suitable for centerfire rifles there?
Directions from the airport or major roadways would be appreciated. I need confirm my zero on my weapons before heading south. I thank you for your time.

Red's in Oak Hill. A 100-yard indoor range, on US 290 West. South Lamar Boulevard becomes US 290 West. (I guess Red's is still open.) It's about nine miles from the Capitol building downtown. If you're going from the airport to Red's, phone first to see if they're still open.
Austin traffic is horrible, so be emotionally prepared. :D It will help you to buy a city map at the airport when you arrive.
The new airport is sort of at the southeast edge of Austin. The old Bergstrom AFB. The main entrance of the airport is on Hwy 71 South. Take a left as you exit. Stay in the left lane and pick up US 290 West/Ben White Blvd , which will go across the south side of town and if you're lucky on interpreting the signs, carry you to Oak Hill.
Note: The intersection of I-35 and Ben White is a raving bitch, but there's no way for a stranger to work around it. It will commonly take three or four cycles of the traffic signal.
I've been hanging out at McBride's Guns (W. 30th St. and N. Lamar Blvd.) since about the time Mac opened in 1964-ish. His family runs it now. Good folks.

"Red's" on west side. One of the few 100 yard indoor deals west of the Mississippi. Sorry, been a couple of years since there and directions slip me just now. Hwy. 183? Seems like I heard they may have remodeled. Pretty old place, but at least 6 lanes with electric carriers out to 100 yards.

Thanks much, gentlemen. Just want to make sure of the zeros. Airline luggage handlers and all.
Art, I'll get that map. First time in Austin. I have a state map that I have used since '95 but I always go to Saint Tony's.

Might be a good idea to PM Dritz or call 'em to be sure Red's is still crankin'. What day are ya lookin' to hit the ground there anyway?
I've got one gift certificate in gun safe that's good at McBride's. Two more coming from TP&W, hopefully mid-March, but maybe later. Depends on how bureaucracy moving. Wishful thinking of using three for one gun when getting daughter back to UT after spring break.
McBride's not too far from DPS headquarters. While in the area, wanna swing by and give 'em a piece of your mind on reciprocity goat orgy? Better still, legislature in session til maybe May. ;)

Grey, flying in on night of April 4th.
Regarding reciprocity, AAAARGH! Cannot believe the hornets' nest that I stirred up with DPS. Never run into that kind of attitude outside of Chicago. Oh, well, I have called in reinforcements. Hopefully it will go through, just need to bring heat to some elf boots in Austin.:)

There's one north of Austin on 183 called Tony's Guns. Might be a bit too far out of the way though.

Red's is open fer bidness. They just finished remodeling a short while ago, but you pay range fees ($12.00) on a per hour basis. The fees add up quickly when you want to spend a couple of hours working on sighting in.
Austin Rifle and Skeet on Hwy 290 approx 3 miles east of Manor is an outdoor range. You pay a flat fee ($6.00) per gun or per shooter, whichever is more.
Enjoy your visit to CenTex!

Jax, always do, just never been to Austin! Yeehaw! No, wait for me it would be, "pardon me, gentlemen, please allow me to express my happiness by manifesting some sort of vocal utterance. I thank you for your cooperation."
I don't think I need two hours to confirm my zero on 2 rifles. However, you never know (especially with me at the controls).:D

To get to the range east of Manor, take a right from the airport onto 71; it's not far to the intersection with FM 973 (half-mile? mile?), where you take a left and go directly to the village of Manor, maybe 15 miles (?). Then, right on 290.
You miss lebenteeen gazillion idiot drivers, that route. :D Probably equal driving time, compared to getting to Red's, depending on time of day and traffic.

If you decide on Red's, tell us when you're gonna be there, so I can hang out in the store area. It's a nice indoor range & all, but the centerfire boom-boom can get into earthquake territory if you're only shooting a handgun.
Look for the zombie drooling in front of the Benchmades...:D

Red's also bought Cook's Sure Shot on the north end of town. (Pfluggerville actually) It's good deal better insulated then the rennovated south location and has lower mounted shooting benches for the rifle lanes. If you're staying in the north end of town it might be worth trying it out. It's off I35 north of the city. If you call the number on their website I'm sure they can provide you with decent directions.

dran, staying wherever the airport is. Only be there one night. Sounds like I'll bounce up north after a run and reveiwing the UT tower and then come back downtown for dinner with Dr. Lizard and Ranger Brade and then head south to Saint Tony's.
SAD, don't know when I would be there. Heck, I don't know if I'll be able to find the tower thingy. Look for the tall, pale office-type in yuppie scum gear who talks funny--"Hey, yeah, yoz guyz, how ya do-in'. Say, hey, how about a lane, huh?":D

Finding the Tower is easy. Finding a place to park within a mile of it is a challenge...
