Im thinking of buying a new pistol but im curious to what type of Pistols are like the Glock in the sence that you can get "33 round" mags for them pretty easy..Im looking to add a pistol to my SHTF side of the closet.I want something that can take a so called "HI-cap" magazine.Thanks for any suggestions.
I dont have a problem with Glocks but i already own a ugly gun "Ruger p97dc" :)

Ps- I Know they are now called "Standard" and not high-cap nowadays :)

Maybe I'm missing something, but I can't figure out what practical use a handgun would have with such a long stick hanging out the bottom. If you need that many rounds you need a rifle!

The cz75 guns have readily available 30+ rounders, alot of these are for the fully auto versions, like the glock 18.....myself I'd rather just use multiple 15-16-17 rounders, but different strokes and all that........tom

Some of those extended magazines aren't worth the money to make them. Shop carefully for one or your vocabulary may expand.

Para or STI/SVI guns can hold 20 to 26 rounds in mags that aren't much longer than usual with the extra baseplates.

In my mind a High Cap is any magazine with a capacity larger then what the original design of the gun called for.

SIG P226 9mm 17 round mecgars, 20 round factory SWAT magazines.
Beretta 92/96 9mms 30 rounders available I believe.
Ruger P95 Aftermarket 30 rounders, I have seen several that function 100%.
Glock 33 round factory 9mm magazines. They also have .40 high caps I believe.

That is just to name a few.

As far as I know most of these huge magazines were designed either for a SWAT type lead shield barrier dude who didn't have the extra hands to reload easily or for full auto variants of said guns.

Earlier post asked what the use... Well...they are nice at the range....rabbit hunting etc. ALSO...a buddy of mine.....ex-cop said that their department all carried a 30 round clip in their vehicle just in case they were caught in a gun battle. This was before the bank thing in california....now most carry rifles. I would suggest Browning Hi-power or CZ's.

Glocks (33 round) also, the Keltec Sub2000 carbine uses Glock mags and you can use a 33 in it.

Beretta 92 series has 20 rounders
Browning Hi power has 20 rounders (SAS used to use them)
Colt 1911 has had some out there (I've seen a WW1-era 25 round mag for a 1911).

The old Luger had a 32 round snail drum mag.

Pretty much any modern military-grade pistol has had a larger-than-usual cap magazine made for it.

Larger than normal capacity mags are available for a number of 9mm handguns: S&W 59xx series, Ruger Pxx series, and the Beretta 92.

I've had good luck with Pro-Mag brand mags in the 20 and 30 round varieties, though most of my use was in the Marlin, Kel-Tec and Ruger carbines.

Saw a 30 round mag for 9mm HK USP full-size on gunbroker last week. Gunbroker Auction (http://www.gunbroker.com/auction/ViewItem.asp?Item=26786161)

I used to work security with an older gent who was a coast guard vet. He didn't talk much about his experiences (which may make them true or non-existent, but I believed him). Said he carried a Beretta 92 with a 30 round mag when boarding drug smuggling ships. Makes sense, since there's lots of doors to be opened and other things to occupy the hands. Also, in small spaces action tends to take place quickly and on a smaller ship, distance from the enemy really doesn't exist and true bullet-stopping cover is limited. A high-cap mag could be a very good choice in that kind of situation.
