Im in Florida. All the homes here have out walls made of concrete blocks. Would 00 penetrate the target AND a concrete outer wall?
Should I use the #4 so many people recommend? Thanks.

Number 4 buck has some lack of penetration issues according to IWBA. They recommend Number 1 buck. Of course, 00 buck is the yardstick most defense loads are measured by, so if you can use it, you ought to. But Number 1 has some advantages, too. Do a search here for Number 1 buck and see what you turn up.

Once long ago before we had a lick of sense,we shot a few cinder blocks with 00, some cracked and some just busted to pieces.
BUT, do not try this at home. We were lucky to avoid ricochets.
I'd have a bird shot load first up, but other differ....

Look at Estate Cartridge SWAT 00 loads. The are reduced recoil but very effective. No overpenetration issues to note, esp. with CBS.

My HD loading is 00Buck, but I know the pattern of that gun and the backstops for my shots.
The lowest I would go, were I to change, is #1 based on the data, but I am not inclined to switch.

I use federal Low Recoil OO for HD. I just patterend it today and it keeps 25 out of 27 pellets for three shots on an IDPA target at 25 yards. (the longest shot opportunity in my house is 12 yards) If you make sure you hit your target with the shot, you probably won't have to worry very much about the shot penetrating the cinderblocks.

megatronrules,
Like Andrew, patterned both my M1014/M4S90's today... As much as I like numbers 4 & 1 Buck, and 0 and 00, I and my weapons, like 000 Buck best... Yes, fewer and bigger pellets, with slightly more mass- perhaps enough to make a difference... At 25yards, my beauties shoot 4.5" patterns( :D )... I'm happy at that distance... As to bouncing any sized buckshot around a cinderblock walled room?( :what: ) Uh-uh, nope, nada, nyet, n-o-o-o-o, I don't like the idea much(:cuss: )... However, like Erick, you've got to know where and what your backstops are... Just remember to do your best to put lead onto, into, and possibly, through your target... Accuracy just might reduce the need for more shots being fired... ( ) Try them all, and be objective- not swayed by anybody else... Each and every shotgun shoots differently, although both of my M1014/M4S90's shoot to the same POA.... Don't ask me, I don't know why! I'm just happy they do! ( :) )
Regards and Respects,
Carter, oldpaladin, out...
P.S. If you're using a pump gun, just about any type of ammo will do, as far as maganum, max, standard, or low recoil... Not so, with gas operated or some recoil operated semi-auto shotguns... Try them all, before you buy in bulk... (:scrutiny: )
