Dave McC, I have an idea for a "sticky"

I see a lot of posts coming in from folks wondering about home defense loads. Perhaps you could make a "sticky" to post at the top for folks to get an idea of what they should be looking for, and then they can ask specific questions pertaining to deviations and variations between ammo brands and/or other specifics. I would think there should be some guidelines on how to first pattern their gun with several loads. Then a chart showing the sizes/calibers of different bucks, the amount of pellets in each load, etc. An explanation of how far each will penetrate. Then maybe some links to places like the IWBA page on Number 1 buck. Then maybe a bit explaining slugs and their uses. What do you think? It might help the folks new to scatterguns understand buckshot a bit better so they can ask questions that might help them tailor a load better.

Hmmm...
Give me a few days, maybe we can come up with first, a basic patterning thread and second, a floater about HD ammo. However, I'm also going to post a thread about some ideas I have concerning new loads strictly for HD. Some should be quite useful for other folks than stone shotgunners too.

....and am waiting for the series as am a very new shortgunner. Heck, haven't even had 100 rounds thru my 870 MM yet. Still looking for a trainer and a range that allows shortgun (and target loads).

OOOOKKKKaaaaay, stand by for a floating "Patterning" thread....
For HD ammo,44, mine the TFL Archives for input. There's PAGES of threads...

Yeah Dave, there's a wealth of info on the TFL. Got over five pages of threads just checking for "patterning". Nevertheless, I do not think one can beat fresh new write-ups from pros who are regularly practicing and acquiring new techniques. Isn't it nice that the old TFL exists in perpectuity even if it is not currently active?

Amen, TFL is one great resource. I hope this one turns out like it....
