You guys gotta remember, what is now "a piece of history" was army surplus or a war souvenir as recent as 35 years ago. Gotta make those old guns pretty.

I had a high school physics teacher, just eking out the last couple of years before retirement, who said when he was in college he did a brisk business silver plating veteran students' WW I souvenirs. Took payment in silver dollars, put them in the plating bath and then spent them a few grams light.

Anybody wants to have the plating stripped and the gun rust blued is welcome to buy it and restore its original appearance. Restoration is getting to be acceptable for worn Colts and Winchesters, as it has been for some time for delGrego Parker shotguns. Maybe soon for Lugers and such as all the nice originals end up in collections or speculator inventories at ever-increasing prices. But it won't be cheap.
