I'm assuming this is illegal ... is it?
(I also assume its a state by state thing).

It depends on the state/area. Check with the Red Critter Po-po.

hunting with a suppressor is encouraged in some countries
it keeps the locals from getting jumpy with every crrrrraaaaack
and preserves the hunters hearing

It is illegal here in GA. But then again, inherently you would never get caught! :)

In a past life, I was a Biologist Tech for the Wildlife Services folks at the USDA. We popped deer with a supressed M700 PSS in .308. It was cool for shooting, but didn't really give us an edge. Even with multiple deer out there, when one starts flopping, the others leave.

Wouldn't you have to use subsonic loads to really lower how far the sound carries? I know it would be better for the shooter, but the sonic crack is still going to carry.

Living in PRK I could never build that .50 Whisper lobbing 700 grain .50 slugs at 1050fps should get the attention of any herbivore in US . Quickly and humanely!:)

Redneck, the sonic crack isn't that loud. About like a big firecracker.

Check state laws.
Although a sonic bullet makes a "crack," (Al's "firecracker" remark is correct) the determinate factor is where it came from = a plus.
A supressed .22LR or .300 Whipser is still on my list to have.
"High tech" wrist rockets indeed. ;)

From Al:
