Hello

I recently started loading for yet another milsurp. This time it is 303 British in a No1 MkIII. I picked the Sierra 180gr Pro-Hunter. I wanted a good accurate bullet that could be loaded to mimic the performance of the military loading and still be used for hunting if needed.

I went to this 303 British site

http://www.303british.com/

and to my surprise there is some information saying that the Sierra 180gr bullet doesn't expand properly at speeds under 2500 fps. I haven't clocked any of my loads yet but I am pretty sure that they won't get to 2500 fps.

Anyone used this bullet for real from an Enfield or at a speed under 2500 fps on game?

Thanks
ZM

I don't use the old .303 much anymore, but the 180 Sierra will expand on wetpack at 200 yards at a muzzle velocity of 2400 fps.

Given that there is no rifle made that will push a .312 diameter bullet over 2500fps, I doubt that Sierra would design a bullet for those parameters.

I load the Sierra almost exclusively for the 303, and while I've not yet used it on game (too much rifle for the local deer) it is a very consistent and accurate bullet.
