Two ways to check.
If you click quick links at the top of the page, the last item on the menu is "Who's online".
If you are in a thread you have been discussing with that person, look in the lower left under their name. The gray ball will be highlighted in a different color.

yeah what happend to the buddy list???
now i have to filter through 2-3-400+ names to see who's here ... there's the little + sign after thier name but that doesn't help much...

I agree. All you had to do with V2 is look at your buddy list. The ones online at the time were shown highlighted. As far as I can tell, the only way now is to look for the little + sign next to the names in the active users list, which like yesterdaysyouth said, is no help at all. Just another vBulletin improvement.
