I went to the range today and put about 200 rds though my rifle as I said before this is my 1st 30-30. it seems to me that it kicked a little harder than my 12 ga ( that is not a prob for me) but I was told it would be less. for all of the rds I had no prob shooting it at 25 it was almost dead on at 50 same thing when I moved to 100 yds it dropped a little no prob. The prob came up when I put a rod thru it I had to push a hell of lot harder than I think I should of had to. I am about to take it apart to clean it But I don't know if I should try to do it. Should it be that hard to put a rod thru the bore?

What kind of jag was at the end of the rod? Maybe the patch was too big?

Depends on the diameter of the rod and what you had screwed on to it, I guess. First thing I'd do is unload the gun, open the lever, stick a mini maglite in the ejection port (turned on) and take a peek down the bore from the muzzle.

If things are reasonably clear (you can see rifling all the way to the other end and there's nothing stuck inside there) then I'd guess you might have one of the following problems:

You...
1. Are using one of those fat shotgun rods--get one made for rifles
2. Are using too large a patch (or too many small ones)--cut down on the amount of cloth
3. Are using too large a bore brush--you want a .30 caliber (bronze) brush.

If none of these things is the case, I'm stumped.

I got a Kleen Broe cleaning kit with a steel rod .30/7.62mm Model no. K-207
small bore brush and small patch. Nothing in the bore rifling from what I can tell is good.

Humm, with that kit I suspect the patch was too big. Use a Jag with a smaller patch ...not the "eye" of needle looking dealie.

Be sure to use a muzzle guard when cleaning from the muzzle end.

My personal 94 gets the chamber cleaned with a pipe cleaner from the breech end.

Every once in awhile I pull a lightly oiled patch from breech to muzzle with a pc of rawhide...

I teated mine with RIG from get-go back a long time ago...has been treated since after exposure to rain, snow...

I like the Otis pull through system better for lever actions...and other actions that normally require going from muzzle, like revolvers...

I have no idea if or when I pulled a brush through mine, don't think the bbl has ever been around a cleaning rod or the Otis ( used that on some other folks' guns) .

Mine shoots great and the bbl is sure 'purty...

I clean chambers...rarely if ever clean a bbl...

My 94 bbl has only had rawhide pulled thru it...as have most all my rifles, handguns...
