Anyone have any info (dates of manufacture in particular) on the Colt Commander Series 80? I just picked up a used one (looks to be in about 95% condition) and would like some more info on the gun itself. It's a lightweight with a blued finish. Thanks in advance!!

Post first five digits of ser#, not whole# Ex: E1234XX. IF # starts with "E" it's an "Enhanced" '80 which is later production. I don't have ser# list but someone will probabley help you if you post #.

Are you sure about the "E" suffix? Serial number FL021xx (with NO suffix letter) is from '83.

MisterX & BigG,

Sorry to be so long in getting back to you both; I was called out of town unexpectedly and am only now catching up with hobby-related matters.

MisterX:

My sources of SN dates only go to 1985. I'm surprised that Colt would reuse the same prefix letters both with and without a letter suffix, but if that's what yours is I can't argue with it! As has been noted, an "E" suffix typically indicates a gun from the "Enhanced" Series '80 run. I don't know, with accuracy, the date span of the Enhanced guns, but mine was bought new in '94.

BigG

I'm going to have to disappoint you, too. I have never seen a Colt O-frame with a letter in the middle of the SN.

LWCmdr: How about 1040E00X?

1040 prefixes are for runs of Combat Elite 1040s...

Thanks for checking LWCmdr.

It is indeed a 1040 convertible.

Wildalaska, I sent you a pm.

Oh oh... when was mine made: FC111xx

Seel frame 38 Super. I think it's the only pistol in my collection that I don't know when it was made.

Thanks.

cratz2,

FC11xxx should be 1985, the last year of SN's in Wilson's book. SN's began at FC10952 in that year, so it's a good bet yours is '85-production.
