can anybody point me to a website explaining how to get a mfg license to make and sell reloaded ammo? i understand it's slightly different than new ammo.

i expected to find something a bit more concise on the ATF website. do they expect you to just call and talk to them? or is there a publication? NRA's website wasn't too helpful either... or maybe i'm just not looking hard enough

I would check with your insurance agent and see what liabilty insurance will cost you before talk to the BATF. selling reloads is a cutthroat business money wise because of pricing

To limit your personal liability, it may be advisable to form a corporation to make and sell reloaded ammo, but it has to be done properly to avoid legal pitfalls which can come back and bite you.

If I were contemplating the reloaded ammo business, I'd seek good legal advice from an attorney in my area who's familiar with the law in my own jurisdiction. I'd only give very limited credence to anything I read on an Internet bulletin board . . . even this one. ;)

The first two replies give excellent advice.

I'll add to them: DON'T EVEN THINK ABOUT SELLING RELOADS WITHOUT PRODUCT LIABILITY INSURANCE!

Tip: It's expensive.

While you're checking on issues, might check local/state FD regs.

thanks, i'm aware of that stuff though and i'm not asking for legal advice from THR. i understand that a bond is required, as well as some other things. i wouldn't think of reloading w/o insurance, etc. and if i get into it, it's going to get a lot more cut-throat :) as i'm pretty sure i can do it for 1/2 the price.

I was really asking if anyone had any experience/advice regarding dealing with the atf and class II mfg licenses. specifically, does the atf prefer you engage them via the telephone? or postal mail? or does anyone do "business" with them electronically yet?

thanks again,
