hello

say, someone just decided to turn out a book, devoted to the history of "modern service pistols" in the world, with the timeframe being 1945 till now. Then, the said book will be wairy well illustrated, with over 400 images, and plenty of thext, both historical and technical, probably up to 400 pages on paper.

In what form anyone will prefer to buy this book - in classic paper form, in much more inexpensive e-book form, or both?

Please, dear gawd, let it be accurate and informative, unlike the usual stuff that comes from Hartink or Chant. I hate spending ~$40 on a book that needs corrections pencilled in the margins of nearly every page. We trust you Max. You're a gun nut's gun nut. Do us proud.

I'd say both. I love to be able to handle a good book, and read it anytime, anywhere: but I like the convenience of an electronic reference, that I can use to e-mail pictures and references, or post them here.

Thanks, Tamara.
Actually, that *someone* almost finished its text.. in his native language which is different from english (yes, there's some other languages around the world as well =)

The text has been proofed and is being re-proofed in its original form; but i think that the translated text (i suppose it to be ready by the next summer) will neeed a native-english editor, for both grammar and factual check-up.

I have some person in mind for this editorial work, but not sure if he will agree, as his interests lie in bigger stuff... Still, it is possible that *someone* will reach some most respectable persons at this forum to get pre-publish feed back about the text... so stay tuned. ;)

I would prefer both - the cd/electronic version would be nice to have on the laptop for when Im out and about or for posting pictures, and the hardback for when computer access isnt possible. Keep us updated, sounds like a interesting project.

In an either/or situation I would say paper format. I hate trying to read a long book on a computer. It hurts my eyes and it isn't very portable, in my case. Otherwise, both.

Hello. I prefer the traditional paper book. Good luck in your work.

Best.

I hate reading books on a computer screen, so written is a must. But I also like the cut/paste option of an electronic document.

I personally, am very dubious about the long term permanence of e-books. I would hope it gets printed... hard bound, as well as paper back. Expensive, I know :) Your website is already an "e" version, I or at least a beta version :)

Max, I'm likely to be home-bound for some months, waiting for (and then recovering from) back surgery. If I can help with proof-reading the English translation, let me know.

Paper, thanks all the same. Screen resolution is usually 72 pixels per inch. Books are RIPed at 2400 or 3000 dots per inch. That's a huge resolution difference, especially for aging eyes.

Soon as I get me one of those toilets that have a built in CD-ROM and an LCD display, I'll prefer the e-books; til then, give me good ol' paper. :neener:
