Hi, folks. For some years, I've owned a Remington Scoremaster 511P rifle. It's in great condition, long barrel, peep sight.

This morning, a guy in my local gun shop told me that this rifle is actually a rather valuable collector's item, particularly in good condition. He claims they're selling for $300 to $400, when they can be found (apparently the target peep sight version is not particularly common). We checked the Blue Book, but found a value (in 100% condition) of only $200.

Can anyone shed any light on this? Is this rifle particularly valuable, due to scarcity or anything else? I know it's a tackdriver, and I like it, but if it's valuable, I'll probably sell it and buy something else (or two, or three, or... :D )

Every reference I found supports the $100-200 pricetag as well.

If you're willing to sell it and he's willing to pay $300-$400 for it, then why not take advantage of it?

Ask around over at www.rimfirecentral.com .

I can check a Standard Catalog of Firearms that I have at home later to see what they quote as a re-sale value.

Shoot! For that kind of $$, I'd keep it, and shoot it. You can't get a comparable .22 for that price, that's not part aluminum, and plastic.

Enjoy that wonderful, old Remington. You can't wear it out by shooting it, that's for sure. :D

Mike, I intend to keep it... it's a wonderfully accurate shooter. At 50 yards, I've gotten groups smaller than guys in the next lane using scopes! :D

If it was worth northwards of $300, I'd probably consider selling it, as it's used only occasionally (haven't shot it much for the past year or two). However, if it's not that valuable, it's a very worthwhile keeper - and besides, it looks like a rifle should! Blue steel and good wood - not a plastic part in there! :D

Did this guy OFFER you $300 for it or did he just pronounce that it was WORTH $300-$400? There is a difference, and it makes most appraisals and nearly all internet price checks silly.

according to the book, in Excellent condition - $125
Given that the book is a few years old and prices vary from one part of the country to another I'd probably expect to see $150 trade in. $200 resale/street value.
Of course, someone with a sentimental attachment to a 511 might be willing to pay more.
