Don't want to start a war, but which should I buy? SA is 100 dollars more. Like the wood grips on the Charles Daly and it holds one more round.

Are you talking about the 1911 styles? They will both take 7 or 8 round magazines. +1 in the chamber, and they're the same.

The SA will be of a little better reputation, as far as quality goes, and grips are easily changed out.

:( my charles daly is in for repairs, bought new (ss compact modle), fired 48 rounds of factory winchester fmj though it and the reverse bushing broke in half alowing the frount half of bushing and recoil spring to go down range. cd says it will be 8 weeks (they said 4 before i sent the gun to them). just one opinion but think about it, if you want a 1911 save as much as you can and buy the best you can. found a kimber this weekend with 100 rounds thur it for $650 so when the daly gets back it will not stay long.:scrutiny:

If you got the dough, go with the SA. CDs have more of a questionable reputation.

If you like the 1911 platform, you can have a smith tweek your SA. Most won't fiddle with a CD.

My Charles Daly, after a spring change, has worked wonderfully. Though it has been picky with hollow points.

I still want a Kimber later, just because. But my CD was my first, and I still like it. Some prices have been really low for it, don't pay more than about $375 for the normal version.

Of the 2, I prefer the SA.

I've owned one of each at different times...would pick the Springfield for another go-around.

I've owned/own both. Had a Field Grade CD, still have a SA MilSpec.

I posted in another thread that my first CD had FTE, FTF, and failed to go into battery about 75% of the time. Got another one just like it and had no problem. My best friend bought a CD the exact same time I did ('bout three years ago I guess) and he's got a lot of rounds through his. Don't know what types of problems he's had with it but he's pretty picky and still owns it.

My SA only has about 500rds through it but they've all been without any problems whatsoever.

I like the fit and finish of the SA much more and I like the reputation of the company and the limited lifetime guarantee is another plus.

I'd say go with the SA, IMHO.
