I was in a local Wal-Mart today, looking at the tiny selection of guns. Now I almost never set foot in the place other than to get my hunting/fishing license, but these guys had a particular type of headlamp that I wanted to get the wife n kids for stocking stuffers. Maybe then I can get my own headlamp back.

Anyway, I saw a small bolt action rifle with a $25.00 price tag. Yes, twenty-five dollars. Closer inspection revealed it was a Savage youth model, in .22 caliber. I grabbed a sales person to ask him if the price was correct. He said yes. I said "gimme". He said "we can't sell it".

Turns out, they get a new manager every 6 months or so, and the chief of police of the town needs to get the new manager's name on the gun-selling permit, or something.

Anyway, my question is, this is a pretty good price, right? I'm thinking of calling them every day and grabbing it to be my son's first gun.

:what:

Tell them that you want a rain check for a dozen of them once they get their paperwork straightened out.

Seriously (or more than that if you can get away with it). Lots of people here will double your money :D plus shipping for such a deal.

I think I'd buy it in a minute!
As long as you're sure it's not for sale because of a malfunction.
Heck, I'd love one for my 11 year old daughter.

Buy them all. I would, anyway. Heck, if nothing else, your family members will be getting a cool Christmas present.

Hell, I'll store it for a couple of years till he's ready. I was going to get my boy a Red Ryder for his birthday next September, but this...hmmm.......

I'm going to try for a rain check. With Walmart, I have my doubts, and will probably just have to call every day until they are ready, then hightail it down there.

They should be able to put it on lay away for you.

I have one of those that was my grandfathers first gun in 1909.

By all means get it. Have them put it in layaway for you. I was going to get one here for $45, but someone beat me to it. The Wally Worlds around here run some great deals on clearance firearms. You just have to have the right timing as they drop the clearance prices. I am watching a Remington 1100 go down in price now, waiting for it to get to what I am willing to pay.

Yep, keep an eye out at your local Wally World for deals... I bought a clearance Savage 110 package, 7mm Rem mag, for $75 yesterday...

WHICH WALMART?!

I'd like to get my hands on one of those.
I thought I missed a good deal when I saw the tag for the Savage package for $250, but $75?!

BTW, our local Walmarts will not put clearance guns on layaway.

Garner Station. There were two old 110s that had been layaways with deadbeat payers. Apparently they sat in the gun room for ages, long enough to get marked down to $75. My roommate bought the other one (.243) for a project gun. Alas, but there were no others... might be worth asking around if you happen upon a knowledgeable associate at a store. Steve in Garner was very helpful with us.

FYI, there was no external indication fo these guns. My roommate was asking Steve about a rumor he heard that the Weatherby Vanguards were marked down to $200 (apparently not true here), and Steve mentioned these two... We bought 'em both the same day.

here in ohio the weatherbys did get down to 200. I missed one by a couple of hours.

in response to the earlier post about --"At $25 ,who needs layaway".. I was referring to the fact they wouldn't sell the rifle to him yet. IMO it's easier to secure the price by layaway, than chancing not getting it over a stupid policy later.

Why not put a down payment on it? That'll hold it in reserve and lock the price. By the way, if you can organize a group buy, I'm sure there's plenty of High Roaders that will clean out Wally World. :p
