I didn't see .44 magnum listed. I don't know what a ".38/.357 magnum" might be.

- 7.62x25 Tok (on occasion)
- .45 Colt (on occasion)
- .22 LR in pocket (always)

.40S&W for me. I like the 165grain Golden Sabers and 180grain Hydrashoks.
I would also feel very comfortable carrying a .45 or a 9mm. I would definately want HPs for the 9mm though.

.40S&W or .38 Special....Golden Sabers in 165gr. in the former, and the new Speer 135gr. GDHPs optimized for snubbies in the latter.

The only problem is that depending on my mood it is either a 9mm or a 45 acp. See I have contracted this disease...its called 1911want.

I carry in my house, it's can be several things but is usually a .40 S&W. I can keep a gun in the car in SOME parts of my state (unfortunately cities and counties make it weird). It's usually a .40 S&W then. My CZ 85 Compact or my CZ RAMI, or both.
Sometimes I'll carry my Delta Elite, Glock 24P, or my Taurus 455 Ti in the house. The shotty is handy in the house so the pistol is just so I can return fire while I get to it.

This time of year, always a .45 ACP. If punching through layers of heavy clothing is gonna turn my JHP into FN ball, I want it to be a big, heavy FN ball.
In the Spring and Summer, I feel okay about my Star M43 in 9x19 with 124 gr. Gold Dots. It hides more discretely under light clothing than almost any of my .45s, even if it does weight about the same.

9x19 148gr Win Ranger
im sorta in flux right now...
likely to end up adding a .380 acp (not sure what exactly) late spring/early summer of 2005. a .357 mag/.38 special and/or .40S&W might also be on the way, depending on several factors ($$ being a major one).

Usually, I use 9mm for CCW(G-26). At home, I use a Beretta 92FS Vertec with light. Both loaded with 147gr RangerT. At work, P220R .45acp/ 230gr RangerT. Sometimes I pack a 442 .38spl or P-32.

Pardon my ignorance, but what does weather have to with the caliber ammo you use?

Two things -- first of all, heavy clothing can clog a hollowpoint and cause it not to expand. Some people feel a need to compensate for this by going up in caliber in winter (I believe Massad Ayoob is one.)
Secondly, it is easier to conceal a larger firearm when you are wearing a coat than when you are wearing a T-shirt.
Hence there is a tendency for people to carry larger weapons in winter.

I voted 9mm, but I will most likely get a .38 +p for summer carry ala S&W 642 or a keltec P3AT.

.41 mag was left outof the poll, however, i imagine few would carry it. it is a .41 snubby or a G17 with a G26 as the BUG. i have 3 hi-caps and, a box of 50 wont fill the G17 to capacity. 17 round mags will work in the G26 as well. which setup i use depends upon my plan of the day or evening. either is comforting. the .41 is also my sit around the house gun. the woman uses her Colt DS ss for about everything. will buy her a blue one if i ever see one for sale. tell her this one is mine and let her wheedle me out of it. heh heh.

Just kidding, kinda sorta.
My "always" ccw sidearm when I leave the house is a .38 Special S&W 442. I can fire it repeatedly from within a pocket without malfunctioning. I love that.
It is a secondary sidearm to either of three more effective handguns:
A 1911A1 5" .45 ACP or
A Model 28 4" .357 Magnum (cold weather gun) or
UZI Eagle full size 17-round 9mm.
No, I do not carry two weapons 100% of the time when out and about. But I leave the house with two and tailor my ccw to the environment. I am most confident when I can carry two, but frequently go with just the 442 for short jaunts into highly populated establishments. It is the "7-11 type" stops that make me choose to carry two.
So I cannot contribute to your survey, though I think you did a good job.

But I've been packing a .44 Special S&W 696 lately.
Otherwise, it's either a .45 ACP Caspian Officer's ACP, or a 9mm Kahr K9.

Depends on the weather and what I am wearing an where I am going . If weekends and sweatshirt weather. Its a Hi Power in 9mm. If its a vest over a shirt its a G23, and it its a suit or sportcoat to work its a G33. Every now and then a SA 1911 but it keeps pulling my pants down too low.

I carried a .38 for many years. Four years ago I started to carry a .45. I've never been in a shooting situation so both have been good for me....at least I had a gun with me.

While I still prefer a Commander, I recently retired and am no longer obligated to intervene other people's problems. It is sometimes convenient to drop a lightweight .38 in my pocket.

9mm - 50%, Kahr pm9, small and easy to carry.
40s&w - 20%, Sig P229, have both barrels and switch between the two.
357sig - 20%
45acp - 10%, Kimber TLE II, Just picked up a Milt Sparks Watch Six for it and have carried it a couple times to try it out. So far so good.
These percentages can and do change according to weather, clothing, and situation.
So in the poll I will pick 9mm since as of right now I carry it the most.

...is a Para Ordnance P12-45 stoked with "evil" Black Talons. Bought a bunch of 'em in every caliber I owned before they disappeared from the market. I think the Winchester Ranger series still incorporates the same hollow point, without the black oxide coating. Black Talons...oooohhhh !
