Do you have to pay taxes on a gun when you have it shipped to a local FFL from another state?
Thanks

That depends on state law and upon the type of transaction. If you're buying a new gun, the dealer may have to collect tax on the purchase. But if the gun is used or if the gun is simply being returned to you then tax shouldn't be collected.

I think it depends on your state's laws. Doesn't it?

Are you purchasing the gun from the FFL, or is the FFL merely doing the transfer? If he's just doing the transfer, then there's no need for him to even know how much you paid for the gun. The only tax he should collect is the tax on his service of transferring the gun to you, not on the gun itself. Of course, this doesn't mean the tax on the gun isn't due, just that the FFL transferring the gun to you isn't involved in collecting it. Quite a few states have some sort of use tax for items bought outside the state. Everyone pays that, right? :D
Now if he's buying the gun from someone else and then reselling it to you, then he should tax you on both the gun and the transfer fee.

I would be buying a gun from an out of state dealer and shipping it in to my local FFL.
Anyone know of a good one in the Fort Worth, TX area??
