Throwing Spike

Can someone help me with a link to a heavy throwing spike (resembling a mini javelin)? I saw it once in a magazine (forget which one), but it's pointed at both ends and weighs approximately 20 lbs. My research for it has reached its end. Thanks for your help.

The only thing that I've seen that resembles what you describe is the Cold Steel Torpedo. It's basically a big spike but it only weighs 2 pounds instead of 20.

Just out of curiosity, do those things have any value? I can't see where they would be better than most any available weapon. I have, and still do at times, think of getting one to play around with, but can't yet justify it.
Just curious

This torpedo is in some sense related to jarts. Its primary use is as a chunk of steel for whatever special lawn game you want to make. A secondary use may be for defensive purposes.

That makes sense. I've seen the video of them throwing them, but it just didn't make sense to me.
Thanks Taurus 66

I can't imagine a 20 lb throwning spear so I'm betting you're thinking of the CS Torpedo as well
And regardless of whether you stick or not, if you hit your target with a hard thrown 2lb projectile, its gonna hurt. Which essentially is what Cold Steel was demonstrating by throwing the torpedo at cinder blocks

i Have had the Torpedo for over 2 years now...
The thing is a great conversation piece...
For self defense its almost useless unless you intend on murder, because this thing hitting flesh would be bad news at best....
the best use i found for it, is i would bring it on the job site, grab a spare 3/4" piece of ply, put it on a dirt hill behind a house or something, make a bullseye and me and the guys watch this the make holes in 3/4" Ply like it was construction paper when you make a clean hit...
I also hit a possum with one in my backyard, but it didnt hit tip first it hit the nasty thing sideways, and still dropped it from about 15'

wow you attacked a possum with that? i would love to see some pictures ^_^ if you hit something bigger, any chance of it running off with the dart stuck in it?

no pics... the thing packs a HUGE wallop i think the only thing running off with it stuck in it would be a BIG dog or a deer, but if u hit the deer in the head u might drop him...
i say if u have extra cash burning a hole in yur pocket pick one up for the fun of it...
just make sure you have some thick plywood or some firewood for practice

how sharp is it? is it possible to carry it in your pocket? do you need some type of holster? It does look pretty 'interesting' :)

its got a OK tip, but it weighs a solid 2 Pounds...its heavy as hell thats the reason it does damage...
i doubt you want a 2 pounds of steel in your pocket, you may walk with a slight limp :D

I think that torpedo would go through your pocket before you went around the block.
I don't know of any scabbard made for one
