Is it legal to give or receive a shotgun as a gift across state lines, both people can legally own the weapon. The states are Kentucky and North Carolina. Thanks

You can certainly give or receive a shotgun as a gift, but it will have to be shipped to an FFL in the recipient's state, and transferred via a Form 4473.

IIRC you can travel across the state line and pick up the gun yourself and still be legal (since its a long gun).
But it would not be legal for them to ship it to you across state lines (not sure if it would be legal for them to hand deliver it to you).

The transfer isnt happening over state lines. Transport isnt transfer if the owner does the transporting. He becomes the legal owner when you give him the gun in your state.

No non-licensed resident of a state can give or sell, or in any way transfer, a firearm to a non-licensed resident of another state. It does not matter if the transferee travels to the transferor’s state. The transferee is still a resident of a different state and that prevents the transfer from being legal.
It is residency that sets the bar...not your current location.
