Check with the GA Dept. of Natural Resources for their Wildlife Management Areas. I'm pretty sure that there are a few of their ranges north of Atlanta.

I shoot here (www.gunsitehills.com)

He has a tactical rifle match to 600 yards monthy. He also has pistol courses but is more into rifles.

I also shoot at Wilson Shoals WMA range north of Gainesville. I've seen some dangerous stuff but still go there sometimes.

Any questions that you have about gunsitehills just call Chief or email me.

Good luck

GA DNR Ranges

GA USDA ranges
http://www.fs.fed.us/conf/rec/shooting.htm

All of these are free to the best of my knowledge.

Wilson Shoals bans using multiple projectile shotgun ammo, but I think slugs are ok. Full auto is also banned and rapid fire is discouraged due to complaints of residents in the area.

I belonged to River Bend Gun Club when I lived in GA. It's about an hour drive NW of Atlanta, but they had everything. Pistol and small caliber rifle plinking, pistol steel plate and gong, muzzleload, 600 yd high-power, shotgun, skeet, trap, and sporting clays. And an air gun range if you're into that sort of thing. There was also campground. Guests must be accompanied by a member. Just be sure to go to the mandatory safety class. You can't shoot without attending and they only have it once a month.

The DNR ranges are generally pretty well maintained. I usually shoot at Charlie Elliot -- off I-20, east of Atlanta. There's usually a good number of folks, but unless it's the weekend before Opening Day of deer season I've never had trouble getting a spot on the firing line.

And hey, it's free!
