Can anyone recommend any good publications about the history/development of combat shotguns?

It was out of print for a long time, now it may be available again- see http://www.ajarmsbooksellers.com/cgi-bin/ajarms/2473.html . Copies are sometimes available from used book sellers (I got mine on eBay) as well, often at lower prices than new.

For anyone not following the link, the book is Thomas F. Swearengen's _The World's Fighting Shotguns_, and it is as far as I know the best available reference.

The 4th Edition is still in print and fairly readily available. I can recommend this source (http://www.rayrilingarmsbooks.com/cgi-bin/rrb455.cgi/2473.html). Good prices and good service.

FWIW, I give this Swearengen book "two thumbs up" too. Excellent resource.

Also try videos/DVD's on the subject. Clint Smith, Mas Ayoob, Louis Awerbuck, and others have some excellent training material.

"Combat Shotguns" by Leroy Thompson. Literally, a review of EVERYTHING out there. Including non-US-available stuff.

Anything written by Awerbuck is also good.
