So - another very enjoyable shoot today, just a few of us. Lucked out on weather, with calm day, temp's up in probably upper 40's so quite bearable and just cloudy. Present were - ''Anapex'' (Dave), Mrs Anapex - ''Girl with a Gun'' (Erica), both staying over up in Indiana County, ''caseydog'' (Ray), ''RevDisk'' (Chris), another long haul for him, over from lancaster County, CMU(and some numbers!) - Corey (Treasurer over at Hollidaysburg Sportsman's Club, where I shoot IDPA .... and of course, self! We shot pretty much from noon thru until near dark.
I wish I had done a ''hardware'' count too because we had quite some selection of tools on hand and shot pretty much all we'd brought. A major plus - I think we all agreed, was having also a goodly number of bowling pins - I mean, sometimes paper just don't quite cut it! :). This was thanks to Corey as Ray, Dave and I after shooting bowling pins last evening, brought away with us a load of well shot up examples. Well, full of .22's but well able to stand further ''dismantling! I checked out my Romanian SKS which I hadn't shot - at all since getting it a year ago - sheesh! - but wished I'd had a foresight adjustment tool .. it needed a tweak.
As usual, a small selection of pics to record the event....
Corey running thru fitting a 3.5 connector to Ray's Glock 19 .... bit fiddly but otherwise seemingly pretty straightforward too. Ray and Dave watch on. Made a nice difference.
Just a target of interest perhaps. 100 yds, .223 ... Ray had five shots from his Encore followed by five from me thru my Contender. The 2 0'clock on 9 ring he called as not so good, and his two at 6 0'clock in the 9 were just a shade low. I threw one of my shots out to 9 0'clock on 8 ring but, all in all ... we are once again amazed by the accuracy of these delightful guns. It'd be hard to do a lot better with many rifles IMO. Just love 'em.
Well - tried again for some muzzle flash - but, guess I'll never equal that one of the Raging Lunatic! Here - the .454 SRH shooting rather whimpy Winchester 240 grain loads ... but ones that do give usually good flash. Rather muted tho this time and not really that spectacular. I included it because it appears the exposure was right at start of the combustion process ... nothing much from muzzle but hey - look at that hot flame at cylinder gap! helps make it easier to imagine flame cutting of top straps eh! I must try again with my old Kodak camera.
Good session guys - thanks y'all for coming over. :) Happy New Year!
Oh and near forgot ... I tried my best (so did Ray) ... to ''convert'' Erica over to revo's but - not much success!! Even my 625 didn't prove that big a temptation! Oh well - have to try again!

Looks like fun. I need to make it down there for the next one. Well, the next one held in warm weather, anyway.
December 30, 2004, 10:38 PM
I'll bet it was a lot of fun.
That pic of the flash is awesome.
Mid 40s, huh? It was almost 80 here today. Texas can't make up its weather mind. Last week we had snow and this week we are back to wearing shorts. Sheeesh.
December 30, 2004, 10:53 PM
Cool! Looks like you guys had loads o' fun, Chris. :)
December 30, 2004, 10:54 PM
Sounds like fun. Nice to put some faces with names also, but who's the old guy in the middle? :neener:
I won't even whine this time about having to work, because I was off this week also. Spent Tuesday afternoon at the range, fireforming brass for my .270 AI. Hey, at least it was range time. ;)
December 30, 2004, 10:55 PM
is that range private? in somebody's back yard? i really like those benches, are they concrete covered with ozite or something?
and how far away are you guys? where exactly is this range?
who's up for a roadtrip? :D
December 30, 2004, 10:56 PM
Looks like you guys had loads o' fun, Oh we did Wes - we did!!! :) but who's the old guy in the middle? Danged if I know Larry - no one invited him!! :D
December 30, 2004, 11:00 PM
is that range private? Yesterdays .. no not private - well maybe yeah, not public per se - it's a club, near me.!! Small club - very much into trap etc but - this nice lil' three position rifle range. Not often used and so - as today - we were lucky and had it to ourselves. Just 100 yds, with target stands at 50 and 25.
Benches are cast - on block pillars and - just a sorta carpet covering. They are very good.
Location .... Near New Paris .... Bedford County PA .... quite remote. I am fortunate.
December 30, 2004, 11:11 PM
425 miles oye!
i'll talk to greg :D

Ok , finally back to check in, great time and great folks, RevDisk , Anapex, Girl with a Gun , great to meet you all and put faces with the names , great folks all of ya ~ I'd shoot with all of you anytime.
Chris (P95) as always the most gracious host, we always manage to have fun together , even working on computer stuff but especially shooting !
Corey , if you read this thanks a bunch for the Glock lesson and the connecter change, and I really enjoy you and the rest of the gang at your club. I'll shoot with you Wednesday.
Ok , a few pics from my cam , Here's RevDisk with a feed problem calling one of the 2 Non-Communist rifles at the shoot a "Communist B^#st*@d"
Aside from the minor feed problems, I love the FAL. Definitely need one. The .45 carbine was nifty too... I'm fixing the mag problems of Anapex and P95 by donating my extended 1911 mags. I never use them in my 1911, so I'm more than happy to empty some space in my range bag.
I love THR shoots. Chance to see all kinds of nifty toys. Not good on my wallet, however. I keep seeing new toys that I have to purchase.
December 31, 2004, 01:05 AM
What a Gathering! Well I can tell everyone had fun. Great pics and nice to put a face with a name.
Well I have made the AR to PA run 3 times. Each time non stop. Makes me want to do it again , met up with Chris and whomever shows up. Last time I made it back in just over 16 hrs. Next time I need change my route. Need to see some folks along the way.
Save me some pins folks...that looks like FUN! :D
December 31, 2004, 10:14 AM
Thanks for your extra pics Ray - makes for a good selection.
Now - guess I gotta do some work today! :(
December 31, 2004, 11:12 AM
How far is that berm in the pic?
December 31, 2004, 11:16 AM
Hal - that is a 100 yd berm.
December 31, 2004, 12:06 PM
That's what I thought.
I wonder if a .22 rimfire would have enough oomph to knock down a bowling pin @ that range?
December 31, 2004, 12:13 PM
Hal - well, bearing in mind the pins are on rough ground and, so not that stable ... yeah I think a .22 would do it. Provided tho I think that an impact was on upper third - so as to get a better tipping moment. We didn't try that yesterday but maybe it'll have to go ''under test'' another time! :)
December 31, 2004, 12:34 PM
No fair "cheating" with scopes or a rifle though ;)
December 31, 2004, 04:10 PM
It was a pleasure to shoot with you guys. It was so good to be back "home" in Pennsylvania, if only for a little while. We left the United States of America and headed home for Maryland today.
December 31, 2004, 10:51 PM
First off regardless of what they say that BFR isn't as bad as what the rounds would make you think! The weather was about as perfect as we could expect for being late December! Got some good help dialing the Camp 45 in and I think we converted at least two people on the Storm. Well three if you count Erica, she's talking about getting tritium sights for it now to use as a home defense gun! Plus what's even worse, she's talking about it like it's her gun! I think I've lost another one to her! I had fun being "tricked" in to shooting a .44 mag snub nose along with shooting some great other guns. Now we just need to plan the next one!
Oh yeah not only am I stuck back in Commie Maryland now I have around a dozen or more guns I have to clean!
January 1, 2005, 03:51 PM
I wish I had been paying attention because that isn't too far of a drive for me. Maybe I'll be able to hit the next one.
It is probably for the better though. I already have plans to go shooting with some friends tomorrow any my ammo budget is only so big. Already have 300 rounds allocated for the AK because I am planning to break a new shooter in on it.
Anyway, I am glad to see that someone else is enjoying the great weather.
January 1, 2005, 04:31 PM
goon ...... maybe as well, as you describe! So - where is your approx area then? ... obviously within reach.
This was in some ways almost an ''impromptu'' shoot - we set it up in a very short time frame. I'd like to try and set up something for spring perhaps but main thing that is tricky is being able to reliably get range availability organized. This shoot was a weekday - so as I'd hoped, range was empty. For a weekend day - different matter ... and can't check this out for a while yet.
If something does look possible then there'll be a post to announce it.
January 1, 2005, 07:43 PM
I'm in Clearfield county.
January 2, 2005, 02:29 AM
Should probably start a western PA email list or something. ;)
BTW, P95? I made it from Ft Indiantown Gap to Breezewood in an 1.5 hours or so. Was going 90+ mph most of the way. Finally I got my toys back.
January 2, 2005, 12:01 PM
Actually, some while back I checked out who was approx ''in the area'' and have a list of folks (somewhere!), tho not with email addy's. However, this forum does provide quite a good starting point, with addition of PM's as another option.
90+ !!! Wicked!! Glad and relieved you have at last got the ''toys'' back! :)
January 2, 2005, 01:10 PM
That gets me thinking, Chris....What about a springtime BIG THR event (Obviously not at the same range you guys were just at)....something for all of the central east coast? Could we get organized enough? Enough members to locally to host some travellers for the weekend at their houses perhaps to keep costs down?
I'm not a good organizer, but I'm a heck of a participant!
January 2, 2005, 01:35 PM
I'm not a good organizer, but I'm a heck of a participant!Haha Scott, me too - and there Sir is the rub!!! :p I would love to see this as a reality - trouble is there are so many factors to take into account.
The first and, I guess, most critical is - the venue. I wonder if there is something suitable sorta ''mid state'' ... such that it could pull in folks from east and West equally easily. Beyond that tho is, inevitably, a considerable burden of organization and on top of that - actually making a date and making it work. Inevitably there are always those who want to attend but in the end can't or don't.
If I know I could ''appropriate'' the range where I shoot IDPA - then that would be well useful ... a club set in 160 acres, with superb facilities - tho not the easiest to find perhaps. They tho pretty much have a full schedule mapped out all year. I will try and check on this next Weds when we have a pin shoot again ... just in case there might be an opening ... just to be sure.
January 2, 2005, 04:47 PM
That would be great. I'm up for a 3 to 4 hour drive, no problem.
Norton and I would ride together, as I'm sure Girlwithagun and Anapex would.

I think we can arrange something for a group get together.
See you on Wednesday!
January 14, 2005, 02:52 PM
Hey Corey - welcome dude! :) Darn - I can't call you names on here!! :D
You reckon we could fix something? if that was possible then it would be great - I am sure any folks who could attend would really enjoy the range if something possible at HSC. Hope for Wednesday yeah - weather permitting (OK - no comments LOL!)
