View Full Version : What car does your handgun remind you of?

It doesn't have to be one you own or resemble it in appearance, just what you think relates to it.
For example, a Ruger might be considered a Ford pickup or a Wilson 1911 might be considered a Dodge Viper.
I think my Beretta 92fs reminds me of a Ferrari because they both have sexy lines and curves.

Firsts, Handgun: Colt Python 6" blue, bought new in 1979
Truck: Chevrolet short bed 4X4 pickup New 1977
Both were constant companions and went everywhere with me in my youth.
I Can't think of one with thinking of the other...

My two carry guns are a Taurus .41mag, 2 1/2" barrel and a S&W 4513tsw. I think they sort of fit with the vehicle I bought in 1978 not my daily ride, but one I can't imagine being without. A 1966 International Harvester Scout, 4X4, not made to be comfortable, will do the job of going pretty much anywhere under any road and weather conditions. Jim.

1911 = FORD.
Fix Or Repair Daily. :D
That might be, but watch out when they run right! :neener:
I kinda think of the 1911 as an older muscle car...something you can tweak and tinker and tune until you make it what you want it.

It reminds me of this: Maxwell Smart's Sunbeam Tiger.
Why?? I dunno. I just like the car!!!
The Tiger, launched in 1964, was the result of fitting a Ford 4.2 litre V8 into the Sunbeam Alpine bodyshell. Initiated by Ian Garrad, it was developed from two Alpine V8 prototypes built by Carroll Shelby and Ken Miles respectively. The 4.2 litre engine produced 164bhp @ 4400rpm.
Tigers were built by Jensen Motors at West Bromwich. A small number were also assembled in South Africa from CKD kits. 6,546 examples of the Mark I were built.
The Mark II Tiger of 1967 received a 4.7 litre V8, developing 200bhp @ 4400rpm. Mark II production totalled 536 examples.
The takeover of Rootes by Chrysler led to the untimely demise of the Tiger. Chrysler did not want to be seen to be building Ford-powered cars, and did not have a suitable engine of their own.
The Tiger was sold in some countries as the Alpine V8. It is perhaps most famous for its role in the television series Get Smart.

I wasn't going to even reply to this thread because I couldn't think of a good parallel between my Makarov and a vehicle, but after I read:
stupid post
I'm going to have to make sure this thread goes on as long as possible.
Anyhow, Makarov - Hmmmmm, I'm no car guru, but it's probably something like a Nissan Altima or somesuch - not too big and just powerful enough, works well, and requires little work.

I did the Ruger already, so here's the rest:
Walther P22: Mitsubishi Lancer "OZ" edition. Looks good, but cheap and no performance to speak of. A few QC issues. All show and no go.
Colt Pony Pocketlite: Honda Civic. More or less reliable, marginal useage, but easy to live with and use.
SW1911: '85-'86 Dodge Shelby Omni GLH. Great piece of equipment, reliable, fast, but will never be taken seriously because of parent company's past attempts. Only people In The Know will recognize it, everyone else will glance at it and move on. :)

I'd say my CZ 85 Compact reminds me of my Subaru SVX. Sporty but also functional. Resonably priced. Reliable but a little tricky to work on if something does go wrong. Good looking but a little heavier than it really needs to be. I'll let the others be for now.

My Glock 34 reminds me of my Civic... Both are black, inexpensive, reliable, and with a little maintenance I hope to enjoy both of them for a long time. Not classy, but not junk either. A lot of plastic parts are involved. You either love them or you hate them, but either way you cannot deny the overall reliability of either. I guess my civic would be more like a Glock compact model but I don't own one of those.

Ruger GP100 -- a fairly nicely appointed, reliable U.S. pickup truck. Maybe a Ford F150 (I'm not a pickup guy). The gun has struck me that way for a long time. Ruger DA wheelguns have a "truck" vibe whereas Smiths are "coupes."
Sig P220ST -- Beamer, unmistakably.
Colt Python -- Corvette. Or a classic Mustang (the Python is a big revolver).
